Job Description
Position Purpose The Assistant Manager supports daily theatre operations by providing leadership during shifts, ensuring excellent guest experience, maintaining operational standards, and supporting staff performance. This role sets the tone for professionalism and productivity. The Assistant Manager position reports directly to the Theatre Manager with a dotted line to the Theatre Owner. Core Responsibilities Leadership & Professional Conduct Model positive, professional behavior at all times Support a respectful team environment regardless of personal differences Demonstrate flexibility with scheduling based on operational needs Accept feedback professionally and act on it Guest Experience Welcome and serve all guests with excellent customer service Address customer concerns promptly and professionally Maintain visible presence in lobby and auditoriums during shows Ensure cleanliness and presentation standards are maintained Staff Support Provide guidance to team members during shifts Help train new employees as assigned or as needed Reinforce theatre policies and expectations Create/update/modify documentation as needed to improve processes Productivity During Shows Assistant Managers are expected to remain actively engaged during movie playtime by: Conducting facility walkthroughs every 30 minutes (including cinemas) Checking restrooms and lobby cleanliness Restocking concessions and supplies Completing assigned cleaning or maintenance tasks Preparing for upcoming shifts Personal phone use is limited to breaks or urgent needs or for business purposes only. Operations Program and oversee projector operations accurately and on schedule; includes testing of playlists. Open and/or close theatre according to procedures Ensure theatre readiness before doors open Problem-solve technical issues with the support organizations contracted to make our theatre successful (POS, Projector, Sound, Internet, etc.) Perform routine preventative maintenance on projector equipment Ensure all Frontline Team Members are trained properly Create/update documentation as needed to improve processes Secure building and complete closing checklist Trouble-Shooting Issues As Assistant Manager, from time to time, you will be presented with problems to be evaluated and resolved. Resources are provided to you with most urgent issues as we subscribe to technical service support for projection equipment and point of sale systems. You, in a leadership role, are responsible for assessing the situation, trouble-shooting and taking action to resolve the issue(s) presented to you. "Owning" the issue through to resolution is important to this role; you may be asked to provide on-site trouble-shooting eyes and ears when requested by the contracted technical support teams.
NOTE:
If unsure how to resolve a problem, attempt to trouble-shoot the issue using google, youtube or chatGTP to search for possible solutions. Projection/Sound and POS issues should always involve the specific technical experts if you are unsure how to resolve. A chart has been prepared to help to determine the appropriate communication plan regarding the issue faced. Communication Expectations Clear, timely, and professional communication is a core responsibility of the Assistant Manager role. This helps ensure smooth operations, strong teamwork, and a positive work environment.Assistant Managers are expected to:
Communicate shift updates, operational issues, and important observations to management in a timely manner and copy theatre owner. Refer to Attachment A. Share relevant information with team members during shifts so everyone is informed and aligned Raise concerns or challenges constructively and professionally Ask questions when expectations or direction are unclear rather than making assumptions Provide clear handoff notes when transitioning between shifts - especially if there are unresolved issues Maintain a calm and respectful tone when communicating with staff and leadership Avoid gossip or negative commentary that can impact team morale Support a culture of transparency and problem-solving Effective communication helps prevent misunderstandings and ensures the theatre operates smoothly for both staff and guests. Performance Standards Success in this role is demonstrated by: Reliability and punctuality Positive team leadership Operational accuracy Strong guest service Initiative during downtime Willingness to support theatre needs Periodic Reviews Assistant Manager performance will be reviewed at least every six (6) months. It is the responsibility of the employee to schedule the performance review with the Theatre Manager and/or Theatre Owner. Growth & Compensation Advancement, additional hours, and pay increases are based on demonstrated leadership, performance consistency, and operational needs.Pay:
