The Assistant General Manager (AGM) supports the General Manager in overseeing daily retail operations, ensuring exceptional customer service, operational efficiency, and compliance with all applicable laws and company policies. This role includes shared responsibility for regulatory compliance related to firearms and ammunition sales, with a focus on supporting ATF (Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives) requirements, recordkeeping, and audit readiness.
Key Responsibilities:
Support the General Manager in managing all aspects of store operations, including staffing, merchandising, sales, loss prevention, and customer service. Act as a leader and coach for staff, ensuring high standards of performance, professionalism, and compliance. Assist in maintaining ATF compliance by supporting proper execution of Form 4473s, background checks, acquisition & disposition records, and other required documentation. Partner with compliance staff or the GM to prepare for ATF inspections and internal audits. Monitor and enforce company policies and procedures regarding firearms and ammunition handling, storage, and sales. Ensure all employees are trained on relevant ATF regulations, company compliance protocols, and safe handling practices. Assist with inventory control, including cycle counts, reconciliations, and reporting discrepancies. Support recruitment, onboarding, scheduling, and performance management of team members. Resolve escalated customer issues promptly and professionally. Act as manager-on-duty in the absence of the General Manager.
Qualifications:
3-5 years of retail management or supervisory experience, preferably in a regulated retail environment. Knowledge of ATF compliance requirements and firearms sales regulations (preferred; training provided if necessary). Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills. Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail. Proficiency with point-of-sale (POS) systems and inventory management software. Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays. Must meet all federal and state requirements for handling and selling firearms and ammunition.
Working Conditions:
Retail environment requiring standing and moving for extended periods. Occasional lifting up to 40 lbs. Frequent handling of merchandise, firearms, and ammunition with adherence to strict safety protocols. May involve exposure to loud noise (e.g., in attached ranges, demonstrations, or testing environments). Fast-paced environment requiring focus, attention to detail, and regulatory compliance. Compliance-driven work environment with emphasis on accuracy and accountability.
