We are looking for an Assistant Manager to help lead the daily operations of our print lab, known as The Lab. This role supports the General Manager with team leadership, production workflow, customer experience, training, supply chain management, business administration, and machine operation and maintenance. The ideal candidate is a gracious and accountable leader with strong customer service experience, creative capabilities, and the ability to lead a team in a hands-on production environment. This person must be comfortable operating, maintaining, troubleshooting, and coordinating repairs for production machinery. They should also be comfortable coaching employees, creating training materials, improving SOPs, supporting supply chain needs, and strengthening the systems that keep the business running smoothly.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities:
  • Assist the General Manager with overseeing lab efficiency, operations strategy, daily workflow, production deadlines, quality control, shipping, scheduling, wholesale orders, and vendor coordination.
  • Oversee a team of approximately 10 employees, including direct leadership responsibility for the Front of House Supervisor, Back of House Supervisor, and two employees with specialty assignments.
  • Conduct weekly 1:1 meetings with those four key team members to provide coaching, accountability, support, and professional development.
  • Recruit, hire, onboard, train, retain, and, when necessary, terminate team members in alignment with company standards and leadership direction.
  • Oversee new hire training, cross-training, employee improvement plans, disciplinary processes, professional development, and semiannual performance reviews.
  • Create, maintain, and implement SOPs, training checklists, training materials, and accountability systems for key workflows.
  • Identify training gaps, workflow issues, quality concerns, customer experience issues, or operational inefficiencies and develop practical solutions.
  • Evaluate and elevate the customer experience, including customer touchpoints, service escalations, retail presentation, customer education, and seasonal merchandising.
  • Oversee machine equipment performance, perform basic maintenance and repairs when appropriate, and coordinate outside repairs as needed.
  • Monitor supply chain needs, maintain inventory levels, assist with supply ordering, evaluate vendors, and help prevent interruptions in production.
  • Nurture relationships with wholesale clients and form mutually beneficial relationships with local businesses.
  • Execute business administration tasks for approximately 10 to 15 hours per week, including bookkeeping support, reporting, procurement, invoicing, inventory ordering, recordkeeping, internal communication, assigned Uplily tasks, and larger administrative projects.
  • Coordinate quarterly team and culture-building activities to support retention, morale, communication, and a high-performing workforce. Customer service, leadership, and production ownership are essential. This is a hands-on role that includes supporting the team, operating equipment, solving problems, and helping ensure customer orders are completed accurately and beautifully.
Full Time:
40 hours/week, 5 days per week.
    Shifts:
    9:00 AM - 5:00 PM, five days per week.
      Saturday Availability:
      Occasional Saturday work may be required. If a Saturday shift is needed, the employee will receive a different weekday off so they only work 5 days in a calendar week. Photo Lab is closed Sundays + Holidays.
        Holiday Season:
        Seasonal peak periods may require additional schedule flexibility while maintaining the expected full-time structure.
          Pay Rate:
          Starting at $20/hr, with a pay range of $20/hr to $22/hr.

          • High school diploma or equivalent.
          • 5+ years of experience leading teams.
          • At least 2 years of leadership experience in a business setting.
          • At least 2 years of customer service experience.
          • 2+ years of training, coaching, onboarding, or employee development experience.
          • Creative capabilities in at least one relevant area, such as photo editing, graphic design, design sense, photography, Canva, Adobe software, scrapbooking, paper craft, or related creative work.
          • Interest in the printing industry.
          • Comfortable operating manufacturing machinery and learning equipment maintenance processes.
          • Proven ability to manage deadlines, prioritize tasks, communicate clearly, and work under pressure.
          • Strong attention to detail, commitment to quality, and positive attitude with a desire to lead and hold others accountable. Preferred Qualifications
          • Knowledge of scrapbooking, paper craft, photography, fine art printing, photo printing, or the printing industry.
          • Associate or Bachelor's degree in Business Management, Organizational Behavior, Operations, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
          • Experience with supply chain management, fulfillment, inventory, ordering, or vendor coordination.
          • Demonstrated experience with machine maintenance or basic machine repair.
          • Experience in retail, ecommerce, production, creative operations, or photo lab environments.
          • Introductory experience with Photo Finale, WooCommerce, Shopify, QuickBooks, Google Workspace, Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, Airtable, or ShipStation.
          Working Conditions This is an in-person role located at Persnickety Prints in Orem, Utah. Work is performed in an open-air warehouse and production space known as The Lab, where the majority of products are processed and customer interactions are held.
          • Frequent walking throughout The Lab is required.
          • Must be able to stand for 3+ hours a few days per week.
          • Must be able to occasionally lift heavy loads up to 50 lbs.
          • Must be able to sit for long periods of time and view a computer screen for multiple hours per day.
          • Must be comfortable working around printing equipment, production machinery, shipping supplies, paper products, and customer-facing retail areas.
