About Sunlight Children's Services Sunlight Children's Services is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing safety, healing, and hope to children who have experienced abuse and neglect. Our Children's Home provides short-term, trauma-informed residential care for youth in crisis while working closely with child welfare agencies, families, and community partners to support safe transitions and long-term stability. Position Summary The Children's Home Director provides overall leadership, management, and accountability for Sunlight Children's Home. This role oversees daily operations, staffing, admissions, case coordination, program data, and regulatory compliance to ensure a safe, structured, and trauma-informed environment for children in care. The Director supervises the Residential Supervisor and Case Coordinator, oversees program statistics and program-level grant management, and serves as a member of the Sunlight Children's Services Leadership Team, contributing to agency-wide planning, collaboration, and continuous quality improvement. This position is ideal for a strong, steady leader who is experienced in residential care, values systems and accountability, and is passionate about serving children and families. Key Responsibilities Program & Operations Leadership Oversee daily operations of the Children's Home to ensure effective, high-quality service delivery Supervise and support the Residential Supervisor and Case Coordinator(s) Ensure alignment between residential care, case coordination, and agency expectations Serve as escalation point for operational, staffing, and programmatic issues Develop, implement, and monitor residential programming, goals, and outcomes Staffing & Supervision Oversee hiring, onboarding, training, supervision, evaluation, and retention of Children's Home staff Support staffing strategies, scheduling systems, and coverage planning Provide coaching and leadership support to the Residential Supervisor Address escalated staff performance issues, discipline, and terminations in accordance with agency policy Verify payroll accuracy in coordination with administrative staff Case Coordination Oversight Supervise Case Coordinator(s) to ensure compliant intake, documentation, service coordination, and discharge planning Provide guidance on complex cases, transitions, and coordination with external agencies Ensure continuity of care planning includes appropriate referrals and follow-up services Program Data & Grant Management Oversee Children's Home program statistics (admissions, length of stay, discharges, service utilization) Ensure program data supports licensing, accreditation, board, and funder reporting Oversee program-level grant management responsibilities, including activity data and documentation Collaborate with finance and administrative staff to support audits, grant reporting, and monitoring Analyze program data to identify trends, risks, and opportunities for improvement Compliance & Licensing Ensure ongoing compliance with KDHE and DCF licensing regulations Maintain compliance with DCF provider agreements and contractual requirements Prepare for and participate in audits, inspections, and licensing reviews Oversee corrective action planning and implementation when needed Admissions & Community Relations Serve as the primary point of contact for DCF, referring agencies, law enforcement, and community partners Coordinate and approve admissions and placement decisions Maintain strong professional relationships with stakeholders and vendors Leadership Team Participation Serve as an active member of the Sunlight Children's Services leadership team Participate in leadership meetings, strategic planning, and cross-program collaboration Contribute to agency-wide initiatives, policy development, and quality improvement efforts QualificationsRequired Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Human Services, Psychology, or a related field required. Minimum age of 21 Demonstrated leadership and supervisory experience Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills Ability to pass all required KDHE and DCF background checks Preferred Experience in residential care, child welfare, or human services Knowledge of trauma-informed care and child welfare systems Experience with licensing, audits, or grant-funded programs Work Requirements Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, and climb stairs Ability to lift up to 40 pounds occasionally Ability to respond to emergencies and crisis situations Occasional evening, on-call, or after-hours availability required Valid driver's license; occasional driving may be necessary
