Position:
Reporting to the Assistant Vice Chancellor for Advancement, the Grants Manager is a central driver of institutional revenue, responsible for the development, writing, and post-award funder communication and coordination of philanthropic grants. The position will collaborate with the Financial Services and Contracts and Grants offices on the financial management of all funds. This position works in close partnership with the Director of Corporate and Foundation Engagement to secure funding from private foundations and corporate philanthropies. Additionally, this role collaborates with the Senior Director of Development to support major gift strategies involving family foundations and relies on the infrastructure managed by the Senior Director of Advancement Services for accurate gift processing and donor stewardship. Serving as a crucial bridge between University Advancement and the Provost's Office, the Grants Manager will collaborate closely with the Office of Sponsored Programs (OSP), led by the Associate Provost of Research and Innovation. This will ensure that hybrid proposals blending philanthropic programmatic support with academic research are seamlessly coordinated, compliant, and aligned with WSSU's strategic priorities. Education:
Education:
An advanced degree is preferred.
Higher Education Context:
Experience working within a higher-education advancement office, university research office, or a complex non-profit environment.
Research Collaboration:
Previous experience bridging the gap between philanthropic giving and academic/faculty research, including working with a Provost's Office or Office of Sponsored Programs.
Technical Proficiency:
Experience utilizing prospect research tools (e.g., Instrumentl, Foundation Directory Online, GrantStation, etc) and advancement CRM databases (e.g., Blackbaud CRM Raiser's Edge, Salesforce, etc).
Mission Alignment:
A demonstrated understanding of and commitment to the mission of higher education and Winston-Salem State University's strategic priorities.
Personal Attributes:
Self-starter with a high degree of initiative, curiosity, and independence. Strategic thinker with a collaborative mindset. Strong integrity, discretion, and commitment to confidentiality. Willingness to travel regionally and nationally, and to work occasional evenings and weekends for donor engagement.
