The New York Farm Viability Institute (NYFVI) is hiring a Grants Specialist to help administer the competitive grant programs that have supported NY agriculture for more than 20 years. This role is designed for an early-career professional with 1-3 years of relevant experience who is ready to take on substantive responsibility with hands-on mentorship from the Deputy Director. You will help shape decisions that affect farmers across the state, work directly with our Board and grant reviewers, and grow into the judgment and skills needed for senior grants and program leadership. NYFVI NYFVI
is a farmer-led, independent nonprofit dedicated to strengthening the long-term economic viability and sustainability of New York State agriculture. We help NY farmers become more profitable while supporting resilient farms, a strong food system, and vibrant rural communities. We are funded primarily by New York State, led by a volunteer board of farmers, and supported by a small, agile staff. Our programs recently expanded to include grants directly to farmers and food businesses. Learn more at www.nyfvi.org. Our staff work remotely from home offices across New York State, and candidates from anywhere in NY are encouraged to apply. The position requires periodic in-person travel within the state, including visits to the Syracuse office, farms, Albany, and program meetings or trainings. Travel demands fluctuate seasonally and are heavier at certain points in the year. Responsibilities Grant Program Administration Support the development, drafting, release, and administration of Requests for Proposals (RFPs) under the direction of the Executive Director. Serve as a lead user of NYFVI's grant management platform (Foundant) and contribute to ongoing system improvements. Compile, organize, and analyze program data to inform reporting, evaluation, and decision-making. Coordinate grant proposal review processes, including reviewer logistics and scoring compilation. Draft interpretive summaries of reviewer scoring for Deputy Director review and Board consideration. Educate applicants, reviewers, and project leaders on proposal requirements, review criteria, and reporting obligations. Coordinate trainings, meetings, webinars, and communications related to NYFVI grant programs. Monitor funded projects for compliance with scopes of work, performance expectations, and reporting requirements; review quarterly and final project reports for completeness. Review expenditure claims, contract modification requests, and project reports for accuracy, eligibility, and adequacy of supporting documentation. Identify deficiencies, flag noncompliance or ineligible expenses, request corrections, and track resolution under Deputy Director guidance. Contribute to program evaluation and to performance and impact reporting for the Board and funders. Organizational Support Support the Executive Director, Deputy Director, Board, and staff with programmatic and administrative activities, including outreach to promote NYFVI and its grant programs. Represent NYFVI at meetings, conferences, workshops, field days, and industry events as needed. Embrace the variety that comes with working on a small, agile team.
