POSITION SUMMARY
Assist Graduate School of Oceanography (GSO) Principal Investigators (PIs) in overseeing and administering all phases of fiscal administration and business functions for Special Projects, Private and Federal Research Funded Awards, with focus on the coordination of pre- and post-award research including collaborative efforts within the GSO disciplines and other University departments. Manage all business and fiscal operations, including the supervision of any clerical support staff and graduate students. Adhere to and implement documented University and Federal Grant policies, protocols, and best practices. Create and implement new systems and supporting processes necessary for successful grant administration.
Duties and Responsibilities
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Serve as principal coordinator of pre- award activity for all GSO assigned PI grants and contracts.
Assist the assigned Graduate School of Oceanography Principal Investigator in all administrative aspects, such as but not limited to; travel, expenses, purchases, meetings, etc.
Coordinate and oversee incremental funding for the multi-year and multi-institutional research projects.
Serve as liaison between URI Sponsored Projects, PIs, and Agencies.
Coordinate and manage sub-awards.
Interpret and rules, policies, and regulations pertaining to State and Federal funding agencies.
Provide and interpret income and expense analyses. Utilize Web-based reporting and grant submittal systems.
Assist PIs in the renewal process for research grants and contracts.
Assist in all phases of proposal preparation for federal, state and foundation grants and contracts.
Develop detailed budgets for proposals based on solicitations from funding agencies.
Develop protocols to monitor research grants and to predict future financial requirements.
Reconcile monthly financial statements using on-line Web-based financial reporting systems.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Prepare and assist in all phases of domestic and foreign travel arrangements. Initiate and prepare various personnel action forms.
Additional duties as required.

Required Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS
REQUIRED:
1. Bachelor's degree.
2. Minimum three years of business management experience in a research setting at a university, college, government agency, or related organization.
3. Demonstrated experience in budget preparation and income & expense analysis.
4. Demonstrated working knowledge of research life cycle, proposal components, and submission systems (i.e., Grants.gov, Cayuse, Streamlyne, InfoEd and/or Research.gov).
5. Demonstrated experience managing federal research grants and contracts.
6. Demonstrated computer skills (including, Microsoft Office, web-based reporting, word processing and electronic mail systems).
7. Demonstrated ability to manage financial projects in a deadline-driven, fast-paced environment.
8. Demonstrated strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills.
9. Demonstrated proficiency in written communication skills.
10. Demonstrated experience with federal agency proposal guidelines and procedures.
11. Demonstrated ability to work with diverse groups/populations.
Preferred Qualifications
PREFERRED
1. Demonstrated working knowledge of RI State regulations and guidelines.
2. Demonstrated working knowledge of oceanography.
