Job Description
About the Role The Remainder Book Receiver plays an essential role in maintaining the flow, organization, and presentation of remainders inventory at Changing Hands Bookstore. Based primarily at our Tempe location, this position is responsible for receiving, processing, merchandising, restocking, and transferring remainders inventory between our Tempe and Phoenix stores. This role works closely with the Remainder Buyer, Head Book Buyer, Receivers, Store Managers, and bookselling teams to ensure remainders inventory is accurate, organized, well-stocked, visually appealing, and financially accurate. In addition to inventory responsibilities, this position also serves as a bookseller, supporting frontline bookselling and customer service as needed. Hours may fluctuate seasonally and during special projects. The Ideal Candidate We're looking for someone who is organized, adaptable, collaborative, and enjoys working in a fast-paced retail environment. The ideal candidate is comfortable balancing physical tasks with detailed inventory work and takes pride in maintaining efficient systems and attractive merchandising.

Have strong attention to detail and organizational skills Enjoy collaborative teamwork and active communication Be comfortable taking initiative and following direction Adapt well to changing priorities and schedules Enjoy learning new systems and processes Be interested in improving workflows and efficiencies Have an interest in learning about buying remainders Maintain a positive, flexible attitude Be able to comfortably lift and move up to 50 lbs regularly Thrive in both independent and team-oriented work ResponsibilitiesReceiving & Inventory Management Receive and process remainders shipments in Booklog Verify shipment quantities and ensure inventory accuracy Ensure books are correctly stickered and priced Report damaged merchandise to the Remainder Buyer Assist in inputting remainder titles, categories, and prices into Booklog Assist in importing purchase orders and maintaining inventory records Adjust pricing and process inventory culls as needed Assist in researching missing inventory Coordinate transfers of remainders inventory to the Phoenix location Merchandising & Stock Maintenance Shelve and merchandise remainder inventory throughout the store Maintain attractive and organized displays Manage remainders backstock and overflow inventory Run daily and weekly restock reports as needed Pull and replenish stock for displays and section maintenance Collaborate with bookselling teams to keep remainder sections fully stocked and customer-ready Team Support & Communication Support floor staff with locating remainder inventory for customers Assist in training new booksellers on the role and organization of remainders inventory Collaborate closely with the Remainder Buyer and store leadership on inventory projects and priorities Help maintain efficient systems and workflows within the department Physical Requirements Ability to lift, carry, and move boxes weighing up to 50 lbs regularly Ability to stand, bend, reach, and move throughout the workday Comfortable working in both stockroom and retail floor environments About Changing Hands Bookstore Changing Hands Bookstore is an independent bookstore committed to creating welcoming community spaces centered around books, ideas, and connection.
