Job Summary:

The Retail Scale Buyer is the first point of contact for walk-in customers looking to sell scrap metal. This role is responsible for accurately grading and pricing non-ferrous material at the scale, delivering a positive customer experience, and supporting overall yard operations. The right candidate is sharp, personable, and comfortable working in a fast-paced industrial environment.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Greet and assist walk-in customers at the retail scale in a professional and efficient manner Identify, sort, and grade non-ferrous metals by type and quality Accurately weigh material and process transactions using scale software Communicate pricing clearly and handle customer questions or concerns Coordinate with yard staff to ensure smooth material flow from the scale to processing Maintain accurate transaction records and follow all compliance procedures Keep the scale area clean, organized, and presentable Follow all safety protocols and wear required

PPE Requirements:

Customer service or retail experience strongly preferred Ability to identify and grade non-ferrous metals or willingness to learn quickly Strong communication skills and a professional, friendly demeanor Comfortable working in an outdoor/industrial setting in varying weather Basic computer proficiency for transaction processing Reliable attendance and punctuality — non-negotiable Prior scrap metal, recycling, or commodities experience a plus, not required
