Non-exempt Job Overview:
The receiving and inventory team works collaboratively to support each other and deliver exceptional order fulfillment and product management for the SLO Food Bank's network of community partners.
Principle Duties and Responsibilities:
Develop and maintain an understanding of the SLO Food Bank's programs, the agency partners, and clients we serve. Maintain an understanding of all food inventory and the product categories that determine how the food can be distributed. Understand The Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP) and its requirements. Assist in product receiving, specifically truck/load inspections, offloading, tagging, labeling, and storage. Assist in building and processing returned products from Neighborhood Food Distributions. Oversee food orders from placement through our online agency partner Web Window, to build, invoice, and support agencies during order pickups. Assist with leading daily volunteer warehouse tasks. Conduct a thorough quality control check for all orders arriving and leaving the warehouse. Communicate with the Receiving and Inventory Manager when food products in your region of the warehouse are running low, and when restocking of items is needed. Assist in the generation of food inventory reports. Effectively communicate via phone, email, and other electronic means with coworkers and external organizations; respond to internal or external questions/needs promptly and professionally. Help receive individual and bulk donations as needed. Load, break down, and move pallets/totes/supplies; operate forklift and pallet jack(s) for materials handling, as needed. Conduct other duties or tasks assigned.
Qualifications:
Passion for SLO Food Bank Mission; strong desire to compassionately serve struggling members of our community. Strong organizational and time management skills.
Strong cultural competence:
ability to build positive relationships with a wide variety of stakeholders including donors, volunteers for faith-based, grassroots organizations and residents seeking emergency food assistance. Bilingual (Spanish conversational fluency) preferred but not required. Comfortable with onsite training for forklift, motorized pallet jack, and other warehouse equipment. Excellent written and verbal communication skills and telephone/in-person etiquette. Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (including Outlook, Teams, Excel, and Word) and ability to learn how to access and troubleshoot the online inventory management system.
Preferred experience with:
basic food safety and nutrition principles computerized food inventory systems operation of forklifts, pallet jacks, and other standard warehouse equipment working with or volunteering for a nonprofit or social services organization

Requirements:
Reliable transportation to work. Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience. 18 years of age or older.
Salary Range:
$21.00- $24.00 per hour, depending on qualifications, plus benefits. 10 paid holidays per year 12 paid vacation days per year (vacation accrual escalates based on years of service as detailed in the Employee Handbook) Paid Sick Leave Eligible for employer-subsidized healthcare benefits Eligible for participation in optional 401k plan, with employer matching 50% of employee's annual contribution up to a total organizational match of 3% of annual salary
Work Conditions and Physical Demands:
The position is based out of the SLO Food Bank's offices at 1180 Kendall Road, San Luis Obispo, CA, and works alongside a dedicated group of approximately 33 staff and thousands of volunteers. The position includes office and outdoor work, including extended time operating warehouse equipment. The physical demands described below are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions: The ability to stand for extended periods of time; the ability to see details at close range (within a few feet of the observer); to lift, carry, and load up to 50 pounds on a daily basis. Must be able to bend, stoop, climb, and crouch repeatedly throughout the day. Long-term standing, walking and kneeling required. Must be capable of weighing and counting items and transferring those results into a computer database.
Variable work environment:
work is conducted both indoors and outdoors with varying environmental conditions. Indoor facilities are kept cold, so warm clothing is required. Noise level varies from quiet office environment to very noisy warehouse. Exhaust and dust may be present in the warehouse receiving area.
