at Veterans Affairs, Veterans Health Administration in North Chicago, Illinois, United States Job Description Summary This position serves as a Supply Technician at the James A. Lovell FHCC , North Chicago, IL and is responsible to assure that adequate supplies are on hand to provide prosthetic equipment to patients. Responsibilities Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following: Supply Management Maintains stock at clinical areas located throughout the hospital for non-recurring clinical prosthetic items. Monitors expiration dates, rotates stock to limit outdates and removes items from use as required by outdates. Checks inventory for stock identified for recalled items and hazard alerts; ensures critical supplies are appropriately monitored and controlled, resolving deviations when possible, and escalating significant deviations to the supervisor. Performs routine inventory checks by using bar coding equipment on a predetermined schedule that will allow for timely replenishment orders. Resolves differences between records and physical count of stock. Delivers supplies to other clinic locations in a timely and accurate manner, ensuring supplies and materials delivered are in sterile and operational condition. Keeps assigned inventory areas clean in accordance with aseptic principles as published in infection control guidelines, local Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and Joint Commission standards as scheduled. Supports wall-to-wall and periodic inventories. Purchasing Placing orders in a timely manner to replenish stock levels. Reconcile purchase card transactions within the mandated ten work day timeframe. Properly file away invoices and accompanying documents. Place orders directly to vendors, DALC , contracted and commercial vendors. Office Automation Work/ Customer Service Processes incoming/outgoing mail. Screens outgoing materials for proper format to ensure they are assembled and addressed in accordance with appropriate restrictions. Physical Requirements:
Work involves exertion such as: frequently lifting and carrying light-to-medium weight objects (10 to 30 pounds) and continually walking, bending, stooping and reaching. Upon receipt of inventory incumbent will push loaded carts, store and issue items in crowded quarters while handling some awkward, hard to handle items. Time-In-Grade Requirement:
Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-5 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-4. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade.

Specialized Experience:
You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-4 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: maintaining adequate medical supplies for patient services; receive, process, manage and distribute all incoming stock; maintain inventory barcode label levels for consistent label to stock ratios; investigate and reconcile discrepancies; assemble durable medical equipment as necessary; and maximize storage space and ensure work spaces are clear of debris for easy flow of stock.
OR, Education:
Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have successfully completed 4 years of education above high school in any field for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. (Transcript Required).
OR, Combination:
Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at this level. Only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours (i.e., beyond the second year) is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirement. One full academic year of study (30 semester hours) beyond the second year is equivalent to 6 months of specialized experience.
