Serves as lead worker for a work crew. Dumps, spreads, and tamps asphalt with a pneumatic tamper to patch broken or eroded pavement. Repairs streets and sidewalks with asphalt, cold patching materials, and concrete. Prepares road surfaces with graders and operates an end loader, paving machine, roller, oiling truck, dump trucks, and other equipment for the construction, resurfacing, and maintenance of pavements and walkways, including materials, drainage and subsurface, soil aggregate, and bituminous patching, sealing, and preservation. Cleans and shapes ditches, removes and replaces culverts, and cleans gutters and storm sewers, replacing broken drainage pipe as needed. Operates a street sweeper for the removal of debris and litter accumulated along Village streets; performs minor maintenance and repairs. Operates various equipment, such as a backhoe, end loader, sewer jet, dump truck, and hand tools. Operates trucks with plow/spreader attachments for snow removal and the application of salt/cinder mixtures to Village streets during inclement weather. Replaces, pours, and finishes concrete in conjunction with street or water/sewer projects. Lays concrete blocks or rebuilds storm sewers with bricks. Repairs, manufactures, and erects regulatory or indicator signs within the Village jurisdiction. Maintains regular attendance and is available to be on call 24 hours a day, seven days a week for emergency situations. Follows all safety regulations, policies, and procedures. Reports unsafe conditions to a supervisor and reports all accidents immediately whenever possible, but no later than the end of the work shift. Adheres to recognized safe work practices. Performs other duties as required or assigned that are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger or handle shovels, rakes, and hand-held tools; feel a surface for texture prior to painting or staining; reach with hands and arms; balance; climb up or down a ladder, hill, stairs, or into a truck; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl while finishing concrete at ground level, maintaining a piece of equipment, or to safely hand materials down into a manhole while another employee is working below; and talk or hear on the phone or in person.The employee must frequently lift and/or move shovels of asphalt or concrete up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move bags of concrete or mortar up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus The employee must be available and present for work as scheduled; be available for call-out 24 hours a day, 7 days a week; and perform all functions of the job safely and efficiently at all times in compliance with all safety regulations and policies for the safety and welfare of the employee, co-workers, and the public. High school diploma, general education degree (GED), or trade school; two (2) years of experience in construction, street, water, sewer maintenance, or a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations Requires possession of a valid Illinois Commercial Driver's License (CDL), Class A, with an Air Brake endorsement.
