Job Title:
General Laborer - Industrial Wastewater Systems Job Description This role performs the day-to-day operation of industrial wastewater systems to ensure proper collection, analysis, water quality, and overall system performance remain within contractual limits. You will work with mechanical equipment, assist with routine monitoring and maintenance, and apply your mechanical aptitude to support safe and efficient system operations on a consistent night-shift schedule. Responsibilities Operate industrial wastewater systems on a daily basis to ensure water collection and analysis meet established standards and contractual limits. Monitor water quality and system performance, promptly identifying and reporting any issues or deviations. Handle and operate basic mechanical tools and equipment, including pumps and wrenches, in a safe and effective manner. Assist with routine inspections, adjustments, and minor maintenance of industrial and mechanical components within the wastewater system. Follow established procedures and guidelines for water sampling, testing, and documentation to support compliance and quality control. Maintain a clean and orderly work area to support safe operations and efficient workflow. Collaborate with team members and supervisors to communicate system status, share observations, and support continuous improvement. Adhere to all safety policies and procedures while working with industrial equipment and wastewater systems, including proper use of tools and equipment. Work reliably within a rotating weekend and night-shift schedule, ensuring consistent coverage and operational continuity. Essential Skills High school diploma or general education degree (GED). One to two years of experience in industrial, mechanical, or equivalent work experience preferred. Mechanical aptitude with the ability to learn and apply new skills in an industrial environment. Basic understanding of mechanical tools and equipment, including pumps and wrenches. Experience or familiarity with industrial processes, water collection, and water analysis. Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and adhere to established procedures. Willingness and ability to work 12-hour night shifts on a rotating weekend schedule. Strong attention to detail when monitoring system performance and water quality. Additional Skills & Qualifications Previous experience in industrial or mechanical roles, such as plant operations, maintenance, or similar environments. Exposure to water collection, water analysis, or wastewater systems operations. Capability to work independently during long shifts while maintaining focus and accuracy. Reliability and punctuality in a structured shift-based work environment. Willingness to develop new technical skills related to industrial wastewater systems. Why Work Here? Work Environment This position is based in an industrial facility that operates wastewater systems and related mechanical equipment. You will work 12-hour night shifts from 6:00 PM to 6:00 AM on a rotating schedule: 36 hours on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday in week one, followed by 48 hours on Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday in week two, with these weeks alternating for the duration of the assignment. The environment involves working around industrial machinery, pumps, and tools such as wrenches, and may include exposure to water, noise, and typical plant conditions. You should be prepared for a practical, hands-on setting where appropriate work attire and adherence to safety practices are expected. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Flat Rock, MI. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $20.95 - $20.95/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
