General Laborer - Industrial Wastewater Operations Job Description This role supports the day-to-day operation of industrial wastewater systems to help ensure proper water collection, analysis, and overall system performance within contractual limits. You will work in a hands-on, mechanically oriented position where you monitor equipment, assist with basic maintenance, and learn the processes that keep the wastewater system running safely and efficiently. Responsibilities Perform day-to-day operational tasks for industrial wastewater systems to maintain water quality and system performance within specified limits. Assist with the collection of wastewater samples and support basic water analysis activities as directed. Monitor pumps, valves, and related mechanical equipment to help ensure proper operation. Use basic hand tools, including wrenches and similar equipment, to support routine tasks and minor adjustments. Follow established procedures and guidelines for wastewater system operation and reporting. Identify and promptly report unusual conditions, equipment issues, or potential system problems to the appropriate personnel. Maintain a clean and organized work area to support safe and efficient operations. Adhere to all safety policies and practices while working in an industrial environment. Participate in on-the-job training to expand knowledge of industrial, mechanical, and wastewater processes. Essential Skills Ability to understand and work with basic mechanical concepts, including the function of pumps and hand tools such as wrenches. Mechanical aptitude with a willingness and ability to learn new industrial and wastewater processes. High school diploma or general education degree (GED). One to two years of experience in industrial, mechanical, or equivalent work (preferred but not required). Basic understanding of industrial environments, including equipment monitoring and routine task execution. Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and standard operating procedures. Capability to work 12-hour shifts, including nights and weekends, on an alternating weekly schedule. Additional Skills & Qualifications Previous experience in industrial or mechanical roles that involved equipment monitoring or basic maintenance. Exposure to water collection or water analysis processes in an industrial setting. Strong reliability and punctuality for long-shift, rotating weekend schedules. Comfort working in a hands-on, physically active role within an industrial facility. Willingness to participate in training and develop skills in wastewater operations and mechanical systems. Work Environment This position is based in an industrial facility focused on the operation of wastewater systems. You will work around pumps, valves, and other mechanical equipment, supporting water collection and analysis activities. The schedule follows a rotating pattern: 36 hours per week on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday in week one, followed by 48 hours per week on Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday in week two, with 12-hour shifts from 6:00 PM to 6:00 AM. The environment is hands-on and physically active, requiring comfort in an industrial setting and adherence to all safety procedures and facility guidelines, including any applicable dress code or use of personal protective equipment. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Flat Rock, MI. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $20.95 - $20.95/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
