Laborer (Street Cleaning--#8016)

Description Work Schedule:

A flexible schedule based on business needs, with little or no notice, and may include weekends, nights, or holidays. Maximum of 1,000 hours each year.

Primary Duties/Brief Description of Work:

This Laborer position will be responsible for performing cleaning maintenance on the City's infrastructure. Primary duties include, but are not limited to: dead animal removal, litter collection, island cleaning, and central business district cleaning. This employee will be required to set up work zones as well as work special events such as Fun Fourth and Get Down Downtown, etc. Seasonal duties include participation in the Snow and Ice Removal Program. The successful applicant will be required to use shovels, rakes, brooms, backpack blowers, weed eaters, and other small tools. This position requires working in and around traffic and heavy equipment. This employee must be able to follow verbal and written instructions. The City of Greensboro pays employees bi-weekly, and the position requires a flexible schedule based on business needs, with a Maximum of up to 1,000 hours each year. This employee will be assigned to the snow and ice removal program and will be subject to working 12-hour shifts during winter or other weather-related events. This employee must have good attendance.

The physical duties include:

standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, climbing, walking on uneven surfaces, shoveling, and heavy lifting up to 50 pounds. Work is performed outside in all weather conditions, as well as maintaining a reliable means of contact, such as home or cellular telephone (to remain in this position). This job is Non-Exempt and is subject to the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA)

Qualifications Minimum Qualifications:

High School Diploma/GED "OR" an equivalent combination of education and experience working in and around traffic and heavy equipment, performing cleaning and maintenance on the City's infrastructure, or directly related experience. Valid Class B Driver's license An Ideal Candidate Would Also Possess (Preferred Qualifications) : Tanker Endorsement License
