Labor Journeyperson
Grade:
Hourly 7 | H-7 Tulsa Public Schools' existing salary schedules provide career increment adjustments based on education/experience and/or years of creditable service. Position Summary:
The Labor Journeyperson performs a variety of general labor and support tasks across district facilities, including hauling, loading, delivering, and removing surplus materials and equipment. This position assists skilled trades with general labor tasks and responds to emergency situations including weather events, power outages, and fire-related cleanup. This role requires the ability to safely operate district vehicles of various sizes, use material-handling equipment, and perform physically demanding work in a variety of indoor and outdoor environments. The Labor Journeyperson works with moderate independence and coordinates with other maintenance shops and school sites as directed. This position is part of the Operational Contributor career track within the Maintenance department.

  • Work Order Execution and Documentation
Minimum Qualifications:
Education:
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered
Experience:
  • Minimum of six (6) months of related work experience in general labor, warehouse operations, or facilities support
  • Previous experience using common hand tools and material-handling equipment preferred
  • Experience operating large vehicles including box trucks preferred
Licenses and Certifications:
  • Valid Oklahoma driver's license with a clean driving record required
  • Ability to operate pallet jacks and other material-handling equipment required
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Ability to safely operate district vehicles of various sizes, including large box trucks up to 26 feet
  • Ability to operate hydraulic lifts, pallet jacks, and other material-handling equipment
  • Ability to perform physically demanding work including frequent lifting, pushing, pulling, and carrying
  • Knowledge of safe loading, unloading, and hauling procedures
  • Ability to read and follow written and verbal instructions
  • Ability to work effectively in extreme weather conditions and varying physical environments
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize tasks
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficiency with or willingness to learn Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and basic paperwork processing
