GENERAL PURPOSE
The Parks Laborer performs a variety of manual labor and maintenance duties related to the upkeep, repair, and beautification of public parks, recreation areas, athletic fields, and public grounds. This position assists in maintaining safe, clean, and attractive facilities for community use.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Mows, trims, and edges grass in parks, playgrounds, and athletic fields. Plants, prunes, waters, and maintains trees, shrubs, and flowers. Cleans Park includes restrooms, picnic shelters, gazebos, sidewalks, amphitheater, and playground equipment. Collects and disposes of trash and debris from public areas. Performs minor repairs to park structures, playgrounds, and equipment. Operates light and heavy equipment such as mowers, tractors, boom lift, weed trimmers, blowers, and small hand tools. Assists with the setup and teardown of community events, sports tournaments, and recreational activities. Applies fertilizers, pesticides, and herbicides as directed and in compliance with safety regulations. Performs snow and ice removal during the winter months. Assists with irrigation system maintenance and repairs. Responds to public inquiries courteously and refers issues to appropriate staff when necessary. Follows all safety procedures and participates in safety training. May be required to work weekends, evenings, or holidays as needed. Any other additional duties as specified/needed. May be assigned to other areas under Parks for staffing coverage. Cross-trains in other park coverage areas.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
High school diploma or GED equivalent Previous experience in groundskeeping, landscaping, or maintenance work is desirable
Required Knowledge of:
Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions. City of Burkburnett Knowledge of the safe and correct use of hand and power tools and equipment common to work Knowledge of the work hazards and applicable safety precautions associated with park/cemetery maintenance work.
Required Skills:
Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions. Ability to interpret field maps and intersection maps. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others. Skill in the operation and care of assigned equipment.
Work Environment:
The Parks Laborer works outdoors in a variety of weather conditions and may be exposed to loud noise, dust, chemicals, and mechanical hazards. Appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) must be worn when required.
Physical Requirements:
Frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and lifting objects up to 50 pounds. Work performed primarily outdoors, exposed to heat, cold, and various weather conditions. Operate hand tools such as shovels, picks, and rakes. Operate power tools such as riding and push mowers, weed eaters, and blowers. Be able to assist in adding pool chemicals and or pesticide applications.
Licenses and Certifications:
Valid drivers license required. CDL or pesticide applicator certification preferred or ability to obtain if required. Must complete boom lift training Must obtain CPR/First Aid/AED training I have reviewed this job description and find it assesses the position requirements accurately
