Job Description

JOB The purpose of this position is to be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of Equipment Support maintenance equipment; light and heavy vehicles on assigned projects or activities of a public works nature. The position requires manual labor work, completed alone or as part of a crew. You will perform a variety of manual tasks and activities, i.e., perform work in Street maintenance. Work includes on-site maintenance, cleaning, and service equipment, emergency needs, vehicles, tools, and work area. Inspects vehicles for required supplies, materials, and equipment. Observe and follow safety procedures and precautions at work sites. This position is designated among essential personnel and requires reporting to work during all significant weather events or emergency incidents.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
1. Drives and operates various types of equipment and vehicles, such as dump trucks, rollers, graders,front-end loaders, skid-steer, back-hoe, and pick-up trucks. Performs a variety of vehicle andequipment maintenance duties, including, but not limited to, monitoring/checking vehicle lightingsystems, brakes, horns, safety devices, and gauges, checking fluid levels, performing preventativemaintenance, and assisting mechanics as needed. Reports equipment failures/deficiencies tosupervisor as required.2. Clears and maintains City streets and rights-of-way, including, but not limited to, hauling andspreading road materials, loading, hauling, and unloading various items such as snow, dirt, debris,brush, yard waste, discarded furniture and appliances, trees/limbs, cement, and constructionmaterials.3. Performs a variety of labor-intensive duties, including, but not limited to, cleaning vehicles, job sites,and the shop/garage, loading and unloading vehicles, patching and repairing streets, shovelinggravel/asphalt (other material as needed), trimming and/or removing trees, digging trenches,compacting earth, installing guardrails, repairs, patching potholes, and assisting Technician II's withtheir duties.4. Maintains a safe work area, including placing and removing cones, barricades, and warning devices,and/or directing traffic at work sites to ensure the safety of the work crew and the public; cleans upwork sites upon completion of the job; picks up all tools and equipment; secures the job site ifreturning later.

1. Remains competent and current through self-directed professional reading, attending professionaldevelopment courses, and attending training and/or courses as directed.2. Performs other duties and functions as assigned, required, or directed, or which are necessary,readily apparent, or related to other duties and responsibilities.

The City of Tyler will accept two years of relevant experience in place of each year of college required in the job description. Four years of relevant experience will be considered in place of an Associate's Degree, and eight years of relevant experience will be considered in place of a Bachelor's Degree. Any experience required in the Minimum qualifications is in addition to years of experience substituted for a degree. The City of Tyler supports a policy of a drug and alcohol free workplace.
