DESCRIPTION
The Solid Waste Laborer assist in various tasks related to waste collection, recycling, and disposal. This entry-level position involves performing manual labor, operating equipment, and maintaining cleanliness at waste collection sites to ensure the efficient and safe handling of solid waste materials.
QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Previous experience in waste management, recycling, or related field is advantageous but not required. Must possess a valid Driver's License Class C at time of placement.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Ability to follow instructions and work effectively as part of a team to accomplish tasks and meet objectives. Willingness to learn and adapt to new procedures, technologies, and equipment used in waste collection and disposal operations. Strong work ethic, reliability, and punctuality in attendance. Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including standing, bending, stooping, climbing, lifting and carrying heavy objects up to 75 pounds. Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions, and environments.
MAJOR DUTIES
Assist in the collection and disposal of solid waste materials from residential and commercial areas, including loading and unloading waste containers onto collection vehicles. Sort recyclable materials from non-recyclable waste at designated collection sites, following established guidelines and procedures for recycling and waste separation. Operate equipment such as hand trucks, dollies, and forklifts to transport waste containers and materials safely and efficiently. Perform routine maintenance tasks on collection vehicles, equipment, and facilities, such as cleaning, fueling, and basic repairs, to ensure proper functioning and compliance with safety standards. Follow established safety protocols, procedures, and regulations to maintain a safe working environment for oneself and others, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and adherence to occupational health and safety standards. Communicate effectively with coworkers, supervisors, and members of the public to coordinate work activities, address service requests, and provide assistance as needed. Other Duties as assigned This position is an essential service position and will require providing services during emergency situations.
