This role involves assisting with the installation, removal, and maintenance of mechanical equipment such as valves, pumps, and associated systems. The ideal candidate is safety-focused, dependable, and capable of working in physically demanding conditions.
Key Responsibilities:
Assist with the installation, removal, and positioning of valves, pumps, and related mechanical equipment Perform valve operations including opening, closing, and turning as directed Support mechanical crews with disassembly and reassembly of equipment Handle material movement, rigging assistance, and tool staging as needed Maintain clean and organized work areas in accordance with shipyard standards Follow all safety procedures, including proper use of PPE Take direction from supervisors, foremen, and lead mechanics Assist with inspections and basic maintenance tasks
Qualifications:
Previous shipyard, industrial, or mechanical experience preferred but not required Basic knowledge of hand tools and power tools Ability to follow instructions and work effectively as part of a team Strong work ethic and reliability
Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift, push, and pull up to 50+ lbs Capable of standing, bending, kneeling, and climbing for extended periods (10-12 hour shifts) Comfortable working in confined spaces, at heights, and in varying weather conditions Ability to work in a high-noise, industrial environment
Work Environment:
Shipyard setting with exposure to outdoor elements May require working aboard vessels, in tight spaces, or at elevated heights Must adhere to all safety and environmental regulations
