Job Description
Position Overview:
Under the direction of the Lab Manager, the Logistics Technician oversees the receipt and shipment of donor human milk, following guidelines and procedures to ensure a high level of safety and quality. The Logistics Technician also monitors inventories of supplies and human milk.Education, Certification, and Experience Requirements:
Required:
High school diploma or equivalent Food Handler certification (can obtain certification upon arrival at the milk bank) Ability to work independently or as a member of a team Ability to stand for extended periods of time and perform repetitive lab tasks for an elongated period of time. Ability to lift 25 lbs Valid driver's license and access to a reliable personal vehiclePreferred:
Experience working in labs, food service, or clinical settings Willingness to learn and problem solve Essential Function(s):Compliance and Safety:
Adhere to all Human Milk Banking Association of North America (HMBANA) Standards, MMBAL Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), food safety guidelines, clean handling techniques, and employee health & hygiene standardsReceiving and Logging:
Log and inspect all incoming donor milk (from drop-offs, depots, and shipments), verifying that deferral dates are followed, and transferring milk to holding freezersOrder Fulfillment and Shipping Logistics:
Manage all aspects of order fulfillment, including preparing and packing milk orders (for shipping, delivery, and outpatients) after supervisor approval, preparing boxes for donors, and procuring necessary supplies such as dry iceInventory Management and Monitoring:
Monitor and manage inventory of unpasteurized and pasteurized donor milk, as well as shipping supplies, and communicate needs to theLab Manager Quality Control and Reporting:
Monitor, record, and report freezer temperatures and any deviations according toHMBANA Standards Lab and Facility Support:
Organize the freezer and storage room daily; dispose of discard batches within 24 hours after receiving positive cultures; prepare and deliver lab samples to UAB Microbiology Lab; and complete all required daily, weekly, and monthly cleaning activities and checklistsAdditional Responsibilities:
Instruct and guide volunteers who are assisting with logistics activities Perform pouring and pasteurization of milk in adherence to HMBANA Standards and MMBAL SOPs Support Lab Technicians with various lab functions, including set up, cleaning, processing, and maintaining lab equipment through cleaning and calibration procedures, as needed Participate in delivering local orders. Represent MMBAL by attending and staffing community events, which may require working outside of regular office hoursPay:
$16.00 - $18.50 per hourBenefits:
