This position combines AutoCAD drawing work, fabrication quality control, material purchasing, scheduling, and general office support. The ideal candidate is competent with computers, detail-oriented, comfortable working around a fabrication shop, and able to communicate effectively with project managers and shop employees. Responsibilities Prepare, revise, print, and organize AutoCAD drawings. Review shop drawings, dimensions, material specifications, and project requirements. Inspect fabricated steel and metal components for quality and accuracy. Verify dimensions, materials, quantities, welds, finishes, and general workmanship against approved drawings. Identify fabrication errors or missing items and communicate corrections to the shop team. Maintain quality-control records, inspection checklists, and project documentation. Prepare material takeoffs and determine the materials needed for fabrication. Request pricing and availability from suppliers. Order steel, stainless steel, aluminum, hardware, fasteners, and other fabrication materials. Confirm material sizes, grades, finishes, quantities, and delivery dates before placing orders. Check and respond to emails in a timely and professional manner. Organize project drawings, purchase orders, delivery tickets, material certificates, and other documents. Assist with scheduling fabrication, deliveries, and installations. Assist with project calendars, task lists, and shop schedules. Communicate with customers, vendors, subcontractors, field crews, and shop employees. Required Qualifications Working knowledge of AutoCAD. Strong computer skills and the ability to learn new software. Strong organizational and time-management skills. Good written and verbal communication skills. Detail-oriented and able to identify dimensional or material discrepancies. Able to manage multiple projects, orders, and deadlines. Comfortable working in both an office and fabrication-shop environment. Dependable, responsible, and able to follow through on assignments. Able to read a tape measure and understand basic dimensions and fractions. Preferred Qualifications The following experience is helpful but not required: Knowledge of construction, structural steel, welding, metal fabrication, or ironworking. Experience reading architectural, structural, and shop drawings. Experience performing quality-control inspections. Experience preparing material takeoffs or ordering construction materials. Knowledge of steel sizes, tubing, plate, sheet metal, hardware, and metal finishes. Experience sending emails with customers and vendors. Ability to speak Spanish, Cantonese, or Mandarin . Experience with project scheduling, purchasing, estimating, or inventory control. Ideal Candidate We are looking for someone who is organized, careful, and proactive. The ideal candidate will communicate clearly, catch problems before materials are fabricated or delivered, and help keep projects moving on schedule.
