Job Summary:
Performs routine maintenance, such as changing oil, checking batteries and lubricating equipment and parts. This position may have a heavy focus on maintaining servicing tires for tractor trailers.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Provides basic care and maintenance to company vehicles; such as changing oil and filters, checking batteries, grease fittings and lubricating equipment and parts. Washes and cleans vehicles interior and exterior. Includes dashboards, consoles, carpet and seats. Logs daily work performed on all company vehicles and equipment into Shop fax program. Fuels company tractors, trailers and other related equipment. Installs antifreeze and replaces lights or other accessories as needed. Performs other duties as needed.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Basic knowledge of Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and applicable Company policies. Basic knowledge of Microsoft office applications including Excel, Word and Outlook. Basic knowledge of federal and state regulations related to tractor and trailer requirements and associated environmental issues. Ability to successfully complete mechanical aptitude and other maintenance related evaluations. Ability to use power tools, precision hand tools, box cutters, power washers, etc. Ability to safely operate heavy machinery/ hazardous equipment. Ability to comprehend and interpret information. Ability to research information, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Ability to learn new technology systems, methods and processes. Ability to reason, form concepts, and recognize and solve problems. Ability to communicate effectively in written or verbal form. Ability to organize, prioritize and manage time. Ability to maintain a high level of accuracy and productivity. Ability to work on-call and flexible schedules including nights, weekends and holidays. May be required to drive in accordance with the BGC Driver Policy. Must be attentive to potential hazards and remedy or place appropriate warning signs or devices around or near the hazard as soon as is reasonably possible. Must report any potential hazards that cannot be immediately remedied to a supervisor.
Education, Experience and Qualifications:
High school Diploma or GED and one or more years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of experience and/or higher education required. Completion of vocational or technical school preferred Partners must be 21 years of age or older to drive for Company business in accordance with the BGC Business Driver Policy.
Physical Demands:
Continuously required to use close vision, distance vision, depth perception or the ability to adjust focus. Frequently required stand and walk for long periods of time. Frequently required to bend, stoop, kneel or squat. Frequently required to talk and hear. Occasionally required to sit, crouch, crawl, climb or balance. Occasionally required to use hands for reaching, touching or handling. Occasionally required to push, pull, maneuver or lift objects up to 100 lbs. Occasionally required to use fine finger movements (ex. typing or sorting). Attendance at work required.
Work Context and Environment:
Work is generally performed in a tractor/trailer maintenance facility. Frequently exposed to outside temperatures and weather. Frequently exposed to industrial odors, fumes and dust. Occasionally exposed to wet, slippery or damp conditions. Occasionally exposed to cleaning agents, heights or confined spaces (ex. air vents or crawl spaces). Moderate to loud noise level.
