Job Description

The Materials Associate is responsible for the overall organization, receiving, and distribution of raw materials, shipping of finished and serviced products according to Lean Manufacturing principles.
Key Areas of Responsibility:
Receives, inspects, stores, packages, and transports product (including material transactions via MRP system) according to CMS policies, procedures, work instructions, verbal instruction from supervisor, and Lean Manufacturing principles. Ensures the receipt and issuance of material is accurately completed on a timely basis to meet internal and external customer expectations. Receives, inspects, accepts, unpacks, and verifies material against Purchase orders. Verifies incoming/outgoing shipment accuracy vs. Sales/Purchase Orders and resolves discrepancies that are identified. Documents and notifies shipper and shipping carrier of any damages during shipping/receiving. Completes all material transactions (issuance and receipt) via MRP system as required. Stocks items and monitors material levels (max/min) to meet internal/external customer demand. Pulls and delivers requested materials to internal departments and external suppliers. Performs cycle counts of Raw Materials, Finished Goods, and Work in Process (WIP) to ensure inventory accuracy. Performs minor mechanical assembly functions as required. Makes recommendations and executes improvement programs (Kaizens) which result in the overall reduction of inventory of products manufactured in the plant while improving stock availability levels and reducing overall cycle times. Ensures proper packaging and labeling of shipments to customers/vendors for safe and efficient delivery . Organizes material storage space as needed to accommodate all materials and products. Prepares documents for shipping (Bill of Lading, Packing List, Customs Invoice, Hazardous Materials, etc.). Identifies and works with management to resolve inventory discrepancies. Performs other tasks as assigned.
Skills & Experience:
Prior Warehousing, Inventory, Receiving, and/or Shipping experience. Lean Manufacturing (or Six Sigma) experience (Kanban, 5S, Lean Supermarket, PFEP, Point of use, FIFO, Material Flow, Value Stream Mapping, Kaizen). Excellent communication and customer service skills. Ability to prioritize tasks, confirm own workmanship, and meet deadlines as required. Ability to read and follow assembly drawings, work instructions, and verbal direction from supervisor. Ability to use a Business system (MRP) to complete planning, receiving and shipping transactions. Experience with Visual Manufacturing is a plus. Basic computer operation including Microsoft Office Suite (Microsoft Office proficiency). Operation of powered fork lift and electric pallet jack equipment, as required. Haz-Mat/DG material Training. Ability and knowledge of proper and safe lifting of boxes and storing of products as well as common hand tools. Reliable Transportation.
