Objective:
Reporting to the Transportation Coordinator, the Transportation Specialist will be responsible for the safe, timely, and responsible transport of students between designated schools to the SAY Detroit Play Center for participation in scheduled after-school programming, including academic enrichment, athletic competitions, and community events. The Transportation Specialist will also provide daily transportation from the center to students' homes.Essential Functions:
Facilitation of daily student transportation Transportation of students to and from field trips and competitions (as needed) Evaluate the safety of road conditions during inclement weather and work collaboratively with the Transportation Coordinator to make recommendations for school pick-ups and home drop-offs Promote a productive environment for transportation staff and students by recognizing and solving problems and encouraging teamwork, creativity, and understanding Work with staff, students, and parents regarding behavioral issues while being transported to or from the center Establish and maintain good public relations with all stakeholders (staff, students, participating school staff, parents, and others) Perform other duties as assigned Other Duties This job description provides a comprehensive listing of activities, duties, and responsibilities required for this position. Supervisor Responsibility Not applicable Work Environment and Physical Effort Requires heavy physical work (i.e., lifting, pushing, or pulling of objects up to 50 pounds) The work environment may involve some exposure to hazards or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions Work may involve moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises Expected Hours of Work Standard working hours during September through June are Monday through Friday from 1:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Standard working hours during June through August are Monday through Thursday from 7:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The position's schedule may vary based on organizational need, and some late evenings and weekend hours may be required. Travel Frequent travel to and from school and community sites is required. Required Credentials and Experience High school diploma or equivalent Possession of a valid Michigan Driver's License Possession of a safe driving record Must pass pre-employment background checks Must have some experience in transporting 10 or more children Demonstrated ability to drive a 15-seat passenger bus safely and efficiently Ability to maintain proper student conduct while driving the center's buses Ability to maintain proper employee conduct on/off the bus Ability to exercise good judgment and extreme caution while driving Ability to acquire knowledge of transportation operations, policies, and procedures Exceptional time management skills Excellent oral and interpersonal skills Ability to problem-solve Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment Ability to meet the physical requirements necessary to safely and effectively perform required duties EEO Statement The SAY Detroit Play Center provides equal employment opportunities to all associates and applicants for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability, or genetics.
