The Distribution Overhead Electric Constructability Review & Technical Specialist serves as the primary field-focused technical resource supporting the successful execution of electric Design/Build distribution projects. The core responsibility of this role is to perform detailed constructability reviews by conducting field walks, evaluating existing site conditions, reviewing engineering and design packages, and producing clear redline documentation and constructability feedback to improve the quality, accuracy, and execution readiness of project designs before construction begins. This position acts as a critical bridge between design, project management, and field construction crews to ensure projects are practical, buildable, safe, and aligned with real-world field conditions. The specialist identifies design conflicts, construction challenges, access concerns, sequencing issues, material constraints, and safety risks early in the project lifecycle to minimize rework, delays, and field execution issues. The ideal candidate brings strong utility field experience, deep understanding of electric distribution construction practices, and the ability to translate field knowledge into actionable design improvements that support efficient and safe project delivery.Key Responsibilities:
Constructability Reviews and Field Validation Serve as the lead constructability reviewer for electric distribution projects, ensuring designs are practical, executable, and aligned with field construction requirements. Conduct detailed field walks and site assessments to validate existing conditions and identify constructability concerns prior to construction. Review engineering and design packages for construction readiness, accuracy, feasibility, safety, access limitations, material requirements, and sequencing considerations. Identify design conflicts, clearance concerns, routing challenges, switching limitations, environmental constraints, permitting impacts, and operational risks. Produce detailed redline documentation, markups, and constructability comments to support design revisions and improvements. Collaborate directly with engineering and design teams to resolve field constructability issues and improve overall design quality. Verify that project designs align with utility standards, field construction practices, crew capabilities, and operational requirements. Support continuous improvement of design standards and constructability review processes based on field feedback and lessons learned. Technical and Project Support Serve as a subject matter expert for electric distribution construction practices, standards, and field execution. Provide technical guidance and support to project management, design resources, and field construction teams. Assist project managers with development and validation of project scopes, work approaches, schedules, and execution strategies. Support resolution of technical and construction-related issues arising during project planning and execution. Evaluate project complexity, risk, and execution challenges, including identification of non-routine or high-difficulty work. Quality Assurance and Execution Readiness Provide quality assurance and quality control support through review of designs, work packages, and field activities. Ensure project documentation and design packages are complete, accurate, and ready for field construction crews. Identify quality gaps, document findings, and support implementation of corrective actions. Promote consistency in construction methods, work practices, and execution standards. Support reduction of field rework, construction delays, and operational impacts through proactive design review and constructability analysis. Coordination and Collaboration Coordinate closely with project managers, engineering teams, field supervisors, construction crews, safety personnel, and external stakeholders. Act as a technical liaison between engineering/design and field construction operations. Facilitate communication of technical requirements, field constraints, and construction considerations throughout the project lifecycle. Participate in project planning meetings, constructability reviews, and field coordination discussions. Standards, Safety and Compliance Support adherence to applicable utility standards, specifications, construction procedures, and regulatory requirements. Ensure constructability recommendations maintain compliance with safety requirements and operational standards. Participate in investigations, lessons learned reviews, and root cause analyses related to safety, quality, or execution issues. Assist with development and refinement of construction standards, work methods, and technical procedures. Journeyman Lineman or equivalent electric utility field experience. Minimum 5-8 years of experience in electric distribution construction, operations, maintenance, design support, or technical field support. Strong working knowledge of electric distribution systems, overhead and underground construction practices, utility equipment, and field operations. Demonstrated experience reviewing construction drawings, utility designs, work packages, and field execution plans. Experience performing field walks, constructability reviews, and identifying design improvements or construction conflicts. Ability to produce clear and detailed redline documentation and technical feedback. Strong understanding of utility safety practices, construction standards, and regulatory requirements. Effective communication and collaboration skills with the ability to work closely with engineering teams, project managers, and field crews. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and utility-related software systems. Preferred Qualifications Experience supporting utility engineering, design review, or design-build project environments. Familiarity with utility estimating, scheduling, and project controls. Experience supporting standards development, procedure writing, or operational improvement initiatives. Prior storm restoration or emergency response experience. Experience working directly with utility construction contractors and field execution teams. Physical Demands and Work Environment Combination of office and field work with frequent travel to active project and construction sites. Must be able to work in and around energized electrical facilities while following all applicable safety requirements. Ability to walk construction sites, access uneven terrain, and perform extended field assessments. Occasional after-hours, on-call, or emergency response work may be required.
