Job Description
Job Summary We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Transportation Assistant to join our logistics team. In this vital role, you will support transportation operations by coordinating shipments, managing freight documentation, and assisting with fleet management activities. Your energetic approach and strong communication skills will help ensure smooth transportation workflows, timely deliveries, and efficient supply chain processes. Responsibilities Assist with transportation planning and scheduling using transportation management systems (TMS) and GPS tools to optimize routes and delivery times Enter and maintain accurate data in systems such as Oracle Transportation Management, SyteLine, and AS400 for freight tracking, shipping, and receiving activities Support dispatching functions by coordinating with drivers, carriers, and warehouse teams to ensure timely pickups and deliveries Monitor fleet management systems to track vehicle locations, maintenance schedules, and compliance with safety standards Collaborate with logistics teams on shipping & receiving operations, including documentation verification and inventory updates Communicate effectively with carriers, vendors, and internal teams via multi-line phone systems while demonstrating excellent phone etiquette Conduct analysis of transportation data to identify opportunities for efficiency improvements within the supply chain Experience Prior experience in transportation management or logistics roles is preferred Familiarity with GIS (Geographic Information Systems), GPS technology, and transportation planning tools is highly desirable Demonstrated proficiency in data entry, analysis skills, and using transportation management systems such as Oracle TMS or SyteLine Knowledge of freight operations, dispatching procedures, and fleet management practices Strong communication skills with the ability to coordinate across multiple departments and external partners Experience working with 3PL (third-party logistics providers), shipping & receiving processes, and warehouse operations is a plus Ability to operate multi-line phone systems efficiently while maintaining professionalism in all interactions
