The Footwear Materials Designer supports product design and development for kids and core footwear, with a focus on value-driven materials that meet quality, performance, and cost targets. This role partners closely with design, development, and global materials teams to deliver compelling materials solutions for everyday consumers who prioritize durability and long-term use over trends. A strong understanding of storytelling, the core consumer, and cost-conscious material decision-making is essential. The BasicsDuration:
7 months Hours per week: Full-time, approximately 40 hours per week Location requirements: Onsite four days per week at a corporate campus in Beaverton, Oregon, with remote work from home on Fridays Top 3 Required Qualifications 2+ years of experience in footwear materials design, with demonstrated work supporting commercial footwear product creation Experience designing for kids footwear (preschool and grade school) and core, entry-level consumer product with lower price points and higher volume Strong understanding of materials cost margins and the ability to drive value through cost-effective material choices; portfolio required Other Qualifications Proficiency with CLO, Viscom, Adobe Creative Suite, and CAD tools. Understanding of the core consumer and clear articulation of material storytelling and design partnerships. Knowledge of seasonal development gates, product and materials setup, leather and synthetic leather materials, and materials-related import duties are helpful. Prior experience within a large, global footwear brand environment is a plus. Key Responsibilities Design and develop footwear materials that balance performance, durability, aesthetics, and cost for kids and core footwear lines Collaborate with color, design, development, and global materials partners throughout the product creation process Support material selection and specification aligned to target costs and margin goals Apply material storytelling that reflects consumer needs and usage scenarios Prepare and maintain materials documentation, presentations, and seasonal deliverables within established timelines In this position, you may have access to client or customer systems, confidential and/or proprietary information or data. This position is onsite and requires you to work closely with other individuals in a collaborative team environment.
