Job Description

We are looking for a detail-oriented Scale Operator to support daily shipping, receiving, and front-desk activities for a busy service operation in Chesapeake, Virginia. This Long-term Contract position is ideal for someone who can accurately document truck movements, coordinate with drivers and internal teams, and keep material flow organized throughout the shift. The role also involves inventory tracking, shipment preparation, and clear communication with vendors and site personnel to help maintain efficient operations.
Responsibilities:
  • Accurately weigh inbound and outbound company and third-party trucks carrying recyclable materials, then enter load details and weight information into required records.
  • Create scale tickets and related documentation that identify material types and support receiving activity on the tipping floor.
  • Share weight information, shipment details, and material classifications with vendors based on established customer and shipping requirements.
  • Communicate with plant staff by radio and provide clear direction so loads are routed to the appropriate on-site location.
  • Welcome visitors and drivers, answer basic questions, and serve as the first point of contact when front-office support is needed.
  • Review container levels at the beginning of each shift and maintain an updated daily inventory of available material.
  • Arrange trailers for transfer loads and coordinate transportation needs with outside providers to keep outbound shipments moving on schedule.
  • Work with operations and shipping contacts to plan port-bound and export loads, including scheduling third-party trucks as needed.
  • Verify that outbound shipments are loaded, documented, photographed, and weighed in compliance with shipping limitations and required procedures.
