GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES
Under general supervision, this position is responsible for a variety of skilled tasks related to the installation and repair of the water distribution system. Reports to a Utility Crew Supervisor or a Crew Supervisor
C. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Assists with performing scheduled and preventative maintenance and installation on the water distribution system; repairs water leaks, mains, services, and meters as needed. Prepares reports, daily records and documentation as required. Operates equipment such as line, dump, valve and hydrant trucks as necessary for job completion; may assist with water quality flushing and water main shut-offs. Assists with asphalt operations and performs general landscaping duties at job sites upon conclusion of projects. Follows proper safety procedures to provide for safety of equipment and safety of others; ensures that all activities and site conditions are in compliance with federal, state and local regulations and policies. Performs routine checks, preventive maintenance, installation and repair of related equipment; identifies and reports equipment malfunctions; cleans equipment as needed. Performs other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE
Water Distribution System Maintenance
  • General knowledge of the methods, tools, and equipment used in the installation and repair of water services and pipelines Equipment Operation
  • Thorough knowledge of the proper procedures for operating, inspecting and maintaining assigned equipment. Knowledge of traffic laws and regulations governing the operation of equipment. Safety

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Requires a High School diploma or equivalent, with any combination of education, experience.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
An acceptable general background check to include a local and state criminal history check; a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record. Requires satisfactory results from a pre-employment medical evaluation. Must obtain a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within one (1) year of employment in this position. Upon obtaining a CDL permit or license, satisfactory results from a DOT medical evaluation and DOT controlled substances testing will be required and individuals will be subject to random alcohol and controlled substance testing.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Tasks require the regular and, at times, sustained performance of moderately physically demanding work. Some combination of climbing and balancing to include climbing ladders, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling. May involve the lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials (20-50 pounds).
SENSORY REQUIREMENTS
Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate sounds and visual cues or signals. Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally.
ENVIRONMENTAL EXPOSURES
