We are currently recruiting for an experienced Assistant Quarry Manager to join and lead our friendly operations team at our Tarmac Stancombe Quarry and Asphalt Plant, which is located in Bristol. The site is easily accessible from Long Ashton, Nailsea, Portbury, Portishead, Wrington, Langford, Yatton, Bristol and the surrounding areas.

Main ResponsibilitiesThe AssistantQuarryManager will report directly to the Site Manager and operate at peer level with the Quarry Section Manager and Asphalt Section Manager. The position provides operational and technical support across both Quarry and Asphalt while holding primary responsibility for site maintenance strategy, delivery and performance.

The AssistantQuarryManager will manage operations with key focus on safely delivering production and maintenance goals for the site. Safety and operational standards are the fundamentals of the role with cost control, people management and performance improvement being key. Managing plant compliance with business policies and procedures and ensuring that legislative compliance is also a strong aspect of the role.

As AssistantQuarryManager you will also be responsible for:

Safety,Healthand ComplianceManaging and overseeing the safe operation of the plant and the planned preventative maintenance ofall ofthe site's equipment fixed and mobile with responsibility for your own safety and that of colleagues and business partnersAct as the site focal point for engineering and maintenance-related statutory compliance, inspections and audits, ensuring plant and equipmentalways remain legally compliant and audit-ready.

Reporting and investigating any unsafe or hazardous working practicesIssuing ofsafety briefings and toolbox talks to your operational teamManaging proactively both mandatory training and developmental training of your staff andkeepan up-to-date training matrixEnsuringappropriate Contractorand visitor inductions are carried out in line with company proceduresUnderstanding Quarry Regulations 1999 enabling a Reg 8 appointment DMaintaining and implementing existing andnew,Standard Operating Procedures, risk assessments and training your staff on the sameOperations Support
  • Quarry and AsphaltWork in close partnership with the Quarry and Asphalt Section Managers, providing constructive challenge and operational support to drive safe,reliableand cost‑effective performance.
Deputise for Quarry or Asphalt Section Managers asrequiredto ensure continuity of operations.

Support production planning, despatchcoordinationand operational problem-solving across both business units during periods of peak demandorresource constraint.

Managing,coachingand developing a highly skilled, fit for purpose and extremely motivated team to ensure business continuity and reduce business riskAll aspects of budgetary control for all operationsMaintenance LeadershipLead the development,implementationand continuous improvement of the site maintenance strategy across Quarry and Asphalt.

Own the planned preventative maintenance (PPM) schedule for all fixed and mobile plant, ensuring alignment with production priorities and shutdown planning.

Coordinate maintenance resources across Quarry and Asphalt to maximise plant availability and utilisation.

Challenge reactive maintenance behaviours by driving root cause analysis, reliabilityimprovementsand defect elimination.

Manage maintenance performance through KPIs such as plant availability, downtime, maintenancecostand backlog.

Work with procurement and engineering support functions on spares strategy, contractor performance and major repairs or capex projects.

Diploma in Quarry Technology/FdScExtractives TechnologySHE NVQ Level 4/QCF Level 6Highly experienced in Quarryingand/or AsphaltOperationsincluding managing maintenance processes
IOSH/NEBOSH
would beadvantageousFull knowledge of Risk Assessments and Safe System of Work SystemsWorking knowledge of production processes, H&S and Environmental policiesStrong IT skills including a competence with SAP and the Microsoft packages
