Job Description
Executive Director 1645 Sparkman Drive NW, Huntsville, AL 35816 Part-time, Full-time Part-time, Full-time Position Summary The Huntsville Islamic Center is seeking an Executive Director to implement the strategic vision and direction established by the HIC Board of Directors. The Executive Director will serve as the center's primary operational leader, translating Board priorities into well-organized, effectively executed programs and initiatives. This is an operations and logistics-focused role that reports directly to the HIC Board. The Executive Director will oversee event coordination, volunteer management, program implementation, and day-to-day center operations, ensuring that HIC continues to serve its growing community with excellence. Core Responsibilities Operations & Event Management Plan and coordinate all masjid events and programs, including Jumu'ah services, Ramadan activities, Eid celebrations, community dinners, and educational programming Manage event logistics including setup, teardown, audio/visual needs, catering coordination, and scheduling Maintain and manage the master masjid calendar, coordinating with all program leads to prevent conflicts and ensure community awareness Monitor inventory of operational supplies and reorder as needed Volunteer Coordination & Development Recruit, train, schedule, and recognize volunteers across all center activities Develop a structured volunteer program with clear roles, expectations, and appreciation initiatives Serve as the primary point of contact for volunteers and coordinate volunteer efforts across committees Board Support & Reporting Attend all regular Board meetings and provide comprehensive operational updates Track and report on event and program KPIs established by the Board, including attendance, engagement, and budget metrics Prepare agendas, materials, and follow-up items for Board review as needed Ensure the Board has timely, accurate information to make informed decisions Financial & Administrative Support Assist the Board and Treasurer in developing and managing the annual operating budget Track program expenses and ensure spending aligns with approved budgets Support fundraising efforts including annual campaigns, donor stewardship, and grant applications Maintain organizational records and ensure compliance with applicable regulations Community Relations & Outreach Serve as a welcoming point of contact for community members, visitors, and external organizations Manage communications including newsletters, social media coordination, and announcements Facility Coordination Coordinate with the facility manager to ensure the center is clean, safe, well-maintained, and prepared for all scheduled activities Communicate facility needs and issues to the Board and ensure timely resolution Cemetery & Special Services Serve as the point of contact for cemetery matters and coordinate burial logistics with families, grounds staff, and relevant authorities Ensure cemetery records are maintained accurately and compassionately Required Qualifications Minimum of 2 years of experience in operations, program management, event coordination, or nonprofit administration Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines Excellent written and verbal communication skills Professional, dependable, and able to work independently with limited supervision Comfortable with technology including email, calendaring, spreadsheets, and social media platforms Preferred Qualifications Prior involvement or leadership experience in a masjid, Islamic organization, or faithbased nonprofit Bachelor's degree in nonprofit management, business administration, or a related field Experience managing volunteers or coordinating community events Familiarity with fundraising practices and donor relations Proficiency in Arabic, Urdu, or another language commonly spoken in the HIC community Work Expectations On-site presence at the Huntsville Islamic Center is required, with some administrative work possible remotely Evening and weekend availability is required for mosque programs, events, and Ramadan activities Flexibility to adjust schedule around Islamic holidays and community needs Performance reviews will be conducted by the Board at 90 days, 6 months, and annually thereafter Compensation Compensation is commensurate with experience and the scope of the role (full-time or parttime).
