Position Summary Temple Judea seeks a dynamic, organized, and mission-driven Executive Director to serve as the chief administrative and operational leader of the congregation. Working in partnership with the Rabbi, Board, staff, and lay leadership, the Executive Director is responsible for overseeing the synagogue's day-to-day operations, financial management, membership services, facilities, human resources, communications, and strategic initiatives. The Executive Director helps ensure that Temple Judea fulfills its mission by providing strong organizational leadership, fostering a welcoming congregational culture, and supporting the spiritual, educational, and communal goals of the synagogue. Essential Responsibilities Leadership and Administration Oversee all synagogue administrative and operational functions. Implement policies established by the Board of Directors. Partner with the Rabbi and lay leadership to advance the congregation's mission and strategic goals. Provide leadership and supervision for administrative and support staff. Foster a positive, collaborative, and service-oriented workplace culture. Ensure efficient and effective synagogue operations. Financial Management Develop and manage the annual operating budget in collaboration with the Treasurer, Finance Committee, and Board. Monitor revenues, expenses, cash flow, and financial reporting. Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and financial controls. Assist in coordinating annual audits, tax filings, and compliance requirements. Support stewardship, fundraising, and development efforts. Membership and Congregational Engagement Oversee membership processes, including inquiries, onboarding, retention, and engagement. Ensure a welcoming and responsive experience for congregants and visitors. Support volunteer leadership and committee activities. Collaborate with staff and lay leaders to strengthen congregational participation and community building. Human Resources Supervise administrative and operational staff. Manage hiring, onboarding, performance evaluations, and personnel records. Ensure compliance with employment laws, policies, and best practices. Facilities and Operations Oversee maintenance, safety, security, and operational readiness of synagogue facilities. Manage vendor relationships, service contracts, and facility-related projects. Coordinate building usage, scheduling, and logistics for synagogue programs and events. Ensure compliance with applicable regulations and safety standards. Communications and Technology Oversee synagogue communications, including print, digital, and social media platforms. Support timely communication with congregants and the broader community. Identify opportunities to improve efficiency through technology and process improvements. Program and Event Support Partner with clergy, educators, staff, and volunteers to support services, educational programming, lifecycle events, and special programs. Provide operational oversight for major synagogue events, holidays, and community gatherings. Board and Committee Support Serve as a professional resource to the Board of Directors and committees. Attend Board meetings and provide operational and financial reports. Assist with agenda preparation, implementation of Board decisions, and strategic planning initiatives. Support committee work as assigned. Qualifications Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree or nonprofit management experience preferred. Minimum of five years of progressively responsible leadership or management experience. Experience in nonprofit, religious, educational, community, or membership-based organizations required. Strong financial management and budgeting skills. Demonstrated experience supervising staff and managing operations. Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills. Proficiency with office technology, financial systems, databases, and productivity software. Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining attention to detail. Deep understanding of Jewish values, traditions, and congregational life. Work Schedule This is a full-time salaried position requiring flexibility to meet the needs of congregational life. Regular daytime hours are expected, with evening and weekend availability required for Board meetings, religious school activities, holidays, major events, and other synagogue programs.
