Society of Sumter County Hiring Shelter Director The Humane Society of Sumter County (HSSC) is dedicated to protecting animals through direct care, adoption services, community assistance programs, humane education, and initiatives that reduce pet overpopulation and improve animal welfare.

https://hsspca.org/ Position Summary- The Shelter Director oversees all operations of HSSC, staff and volunteer management, programs, budgeting, fundraising support, donor and community relations, and organizational planning. This leadership role is responsible for advancing HSSC's mission while ensuring quality animal care, strong lifesaving outcomes, financial stability, and a safe environment for animals, staff, volunteers, and the public. The Shelter Director reports directly to the Board of Directors and works collaboratively to support the organization's long-term strategic goals. Key Responsibilities Develop and evaluate programs related to animal welfare, adoptions, outreach, and humane education. Build and maintain relationships with community partners, government agencies, local businesses, media, and other nonprofit organizations. Support fundraising efforts in coordination with the Director of Fundraising and related committees. Oversee shelter staff and volunteers, including recruitment, supervision, evaluations, scheduling, and compliance with HR policies and employment laws. Maintain sound financial practices, including budgeting, financial reporting, expense monitoring, and coordination with the Business Manager/Bookkeeper. Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, county, and local laws, regulations, and shelter policies. Oversee accurate record keeping for animal care, adoptions, personnel, contracts, and financial accountability. Foster a positive, team-oriented culture that supports HSSC's mission and values. Compensation & Benefits This is a full-time, exempt position.

Requirements Valid driver's license and clean driving record required. Ability to be insured on organizational vehicles. Strong Management experience required Non-profit experience a plus College Degree a plus Animal Care a plus Passionate about animals and rescue
Pay:
$48,000.00 - $54,000.00 per year
