At our core, we endeavor to advance the skills and talents of our students in areas where music training is either inaccessible or unavailable. We provide a culturally rich, intense training platform in music spanning both classical and contemporary genres. In addition, through our partnerships with Chicago Public Schools (CPS) and other community organizations, we accommodate extended in-school and after school programming. About the Role The Director, Development and Communications (DDC) leads and manages the strategic direction of the development office, and fundraising strategies to advance the agency's mission. Working closely with the Executive Director and the Board of Directors, the DDC will grow revenue by cultivating key donor relationships and designing fundraising events that successfully generate funding and increase engagement between donors and the organization. As a member of the senior leadership team, the Director, Development and Communications is expected to have a broad knowledge in fundraising, cultivating long-lasting relationships, developing and executing fundraising strategies, and seamlessly moving donors through the gifting process.
Essential Role Responsibilities:
Under the leadership of the Executive Director (ED), the Director, DC responsibilities will include:
Leadership:
  • Ensures the implementation of MAI's strategic goals and initiatives
  • Assist with the development of operational budgets, policies, and procedures
  • Structures and executes standard operating protocols and drives deadlines, milestones, processes and assessments to full completion
  • Champion operational efficiency and effectiveness across the organization
  • Keeps senior management informed with detailed and accurate reports and/or presentations
Fundraising:
  • Lead MAI in all aspects of the fundraising cycle, including corporate engagement, major gifts, grants administration, individual giving, events, annual appeals, and external communications
  • Manage portfolio of major donors and leverage external stakeholders to secure resources to advance the mission of the organization
  • Develop, in partnership with Executive Director the annual strategy and goals for philanthropic events
  • Develop a comprehensive corporate giving strategy to engage corporations in supporting MAI programs
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including current and potential donors, community leaders, and corporate partners.
Communications:
  • Oversee the production of communications materials for brand awareness and engagement to strengthen visibility amongst the funding partners and the community, and create a pipeline of potential donors
  • Develop a multi-platform campaign to grow the email subscriber list through social media, in-person events, websites, and referral partnerships
  • Serve as lead writer for executive messaging, quarterly donor mailers, campaign narratives, and media outreach
Position Qualifications:
  • A BA/BS in Business Management or related field is preferred
  • Entrepreneurial spirit with a successful track record of 10+ years of experience in nonprofit fundraising
  • Demonstrated problem-solving and strategic management experience
  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Flexibility with regard to schedule and travel
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Ability to excel in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities
Pay:
$35,000.00 - $40,000.00 per year
