Position Summary:
The Executive Director is the key management leader of Save-A-Pet. This community-facing position is responsible for overseeing the administration, financial management, development and execution of strategic goals, promoting Save-A-Pet's mission and policies set by the Board. Key duties include the oversight of the organization's financial management, operations, overall animal care, fundraising, marketing, community outreach and volunteer programs.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Strategic Leadership and Management
- The Executive Director provides overall leadership for the organization, leading a diverse team to achieve the mission of Save-A-Pet and working with the Board of Directors.
- Lead the organization to ensure efficient use of resources and alignment with organizational goals.
- Foster a positive organizational culture that promotes problem-solving, creativity, transparency and conflict resolution.
- Serve as primary spokesperson for the organization. 2. Financial Oversight and Fundraising
- Protect and ensure the financial viability and integrity of Save-A-Pet, including that the organization operates within the annual budget approved by the Board. Make recommendations to the Board as needed in support of this responsibility.
- Oversee the annual budget process and ensure monthly financial reports accurately reflect the financial health of the organization. Assist Auditors as needed. Provide direction and oversight on fundraising plan/goals and their implementation, including, but not limited to. building, cultivating and maintaining donor relationships.
- Work with management and the Board to ensure compliance with all applicable laws and regulations. 3. Administration and Management
- Build and lead a professional and skilled senior team to support the organization's mission, needs and growth and empower them to manage their own department and/or areas of responsibilities as described in their job descriptions.
- Understand and utilize employee strengths to promote engagement and maximize performance. Foster skills' development and teamwork through both informal and formal communication.
- Establish and implement departmental procedures and goals as needed and/or appropriate, conferring with board members and staff when necessary. 4. Board Relations
- Partner with the Board to develop and implement strategic and annual operational/ fundraising goals and plans.
- Update the Board of key developments, challenges, and opportunities impacting Save-A-Pet, including but not limited to approval requests for projects or purchases exceeding the executive director's expenditure limit. 5. Legal Affairs and Insurance
- Serve as primary point of contact for legal issues and governmental matters or delegate to management when appropriate. Establish and maintain communication with legal counsels.
- Ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
- Thoroughly understand and ensure that proper insurance coverage is in effect and applicable regulations are adhered to.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's Degree and at least 5 years of senior management experience and leadership, preferably in the not-for-profit, animal welfare or related field.
- Superior management skills in human resources, staff management and development with a strong commitment to collaborative, and team-oriented working environments.
- Sound financial management skills, including budget preparation, analysis, decision making, and reporting.
- Demonstrable experience in developing and implementing strategic plans and goals
- Strong organizational abilities including planning, delegating, and program development.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with an ability to engage with staff, donors, volunteers, Board members, and other constituents. Strong written and verbal communications skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Suite, and the ability to learn software systems utilized by the organization.
