Mission Statement :
The mission of the Dinsmore Homestead Foundation Board of Directors is to preserve and maintain the physical integrity of the historic Dinsmore Homestead, its buildings, grounds, artifacts, and papers; and to relate the life and role of the family members in local, regional and national history to: Provide educational opportunities for youth and adults. Preserve the cultural heritage of Kentucky. Support cultural and historical research. Contribute to the quality of life in the tri-state region. Job Description The primary responsibilities of the Executive Director are: 1. Fundraising and Grant Writing Identify, cultivate, and steward major donors and foundations to support our mission and growth. Increase and diversify financial support from individual donors, foundations, corporations, and government. Identify grant opportunities and work to develop government, non-profit, and foundation grants to support the operation. Responsible for appropriate monitoring of grants and required reporting. Promptly recognize donations received via a letter or phone call to the donor. 2. Collaboration with the Director of Education especially as it relates to grant writing and scheduling on the electronic calendar. 3. Administrative Duties Management of the physical property. Oversee the part-time Office Staff, Housekeeping, and Grounds/Building Maintenance. Management of the Heritage Center Gift Shop including inventory and staffing of volunteers. Ensure that the membership/directory database is kept current and active and includes visitors. Assist with budget preparation and monitoring. Maintain up-to-books and accurate books and records with Dinsmore Homestead Foundation Board of Directors' treasurer. Maintain (or oversee) compliance with all federal, state, and local requirements with assistance from the Board of Directors and staff. 4. Event planning and scheduling Create long and short-range events that make a profit throughout the year. Promote the use of the Heritage Center as a venue to the community. Schedule and coordinate weekend tours (Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, 1:00-4:00) so duties are shared among staff and volunteers. 5. Marketing and Public/Government Relations Attend organizational events which increase awareness of Dinsmore and foster donations. Increase Dinsmore's presence in all aspects of social media. Maintain a good working relationship with appropriate county and state government officials. 6. Volunteers Recruit and supervise a strong base of volunteers needed for special events, the gift shop, and other areas as directed. Collaborate with the Director of Education to increase and maintain the education volunteers and docent base.
Qualifications:
Degree in Marketing or Business or an equivalent combination of education and experience. This is a position for a seasoned professional with references. Organizational skills with attention to detail and an ability to multi-task. Expertise with social media, Microsoft Office or its equivalent software, web-based and data-based tools. Knowledge of and experience with development of marketing and donor-outreach materials. Demonstrated success in fundraising and/or grant writing. Interpersonal skills that include the ability to connect with people from diverse backgrounds in a variety of ways. Strong communication skills that include public speaking.
Location:
The Executive Director will be based at Dinsmore Homestead, 5656 Burlington Pike, Burlington, Kentucky 41005, with an office in the new Heritage Center.
Salary:
Salary range depends on education and experience. The position requires some weekend and evening hours. The work schedule is flexible, and some duties may be performed from home or off-site. The Executive Director works closely with the Dinsmore Homestead Foundation Board of Directors but reports directly to its President.
