Job Description

Foci Minnesota Center for Glass Arts seeks a dynamic and visionary Executive Director (ED) to lead the organization in promoting, preserving, and advancing glass art in Minnesota. The ED will oversee administration, programs, and strategic planning, working closely with the Board of Directors to fulfill the organization's mission. This role encompasses strategic leadership, operational and staff management, fundraising, and community engagement.
Key Responsibilities:
Leadership and Strategy:
Develop and implement strategic plans aligning with the mission and vision of Foci Minnesota Center for Glass Arts. Provide leadership and direction to ensure operational effectiveness and efficiency. Collaborate with the Board of Directors on goals, policies, and strategies.
Operational Management:
Oversee daily operations, including program development, project management, and staff supervision. Develop operational systems to support high-quality work for the community. Maintain operational functions including program specific budgeting, payroll, insurance, and landlord relations. Foster a supportive and collaborative work environment, promoting professional development and teamwork among staff. Provide mentorship, training, and resources to empower staff to achieve their full potential. Facilitate regular staff meetings and open communication channels to ensure a cohesive and motivated team. Recognize and celebrate staff achievements, encouraging a culture of appreciation and continuous improvement. Ensure compliance with legal, regulatory, and funding requirements. Manage the organization's budget, finances, and resources for sustainability and growth. Collaborate with the organization's pro-bono lawyer, database consultant, and outsourced accounting partner. Manage the organization's audit. Create, implement, and enforce internal policies and procedures. Identify and mitigate organizational risks and opportunities.
Fundraising and Development:
Develop and execute fundraising strategies to secure financial support from various sources. Write and submit grant applications, reports, and campaign materials. Cultivate and maintain relationships with donors, sponsors, and grant-making organizations. Oversee planning and execution of fundraising events.
Community Engagement and Outreach:
Serve as the primary spokesperson and advocate for Foci Minnesota Center for Glass Arts. Foster relationships with artists, educators, community leaders, and cultural organizations. Implement community outreach programs to increase awareness and participation in glass art activities.
Program Development and Implementation:
Oversee the development and delivery of high-quality programs supporting the glass art community. Ensure programs are innovative, inclusive, and responsive to community needs. Evaluate program effectiveness and make data-driven improvements. Build strategic partnerships and increase organizational visibility.
Board Governance:
Assist the Board of Directors in governance functions and facilitate Board meetings. Provide regular updates and reports on organizational performance, finances, challenges, and opportunities. Support Board member recruitment, development, and engagement.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in arts administration, nonprofit management, business administration, or a related field, or equivalent experience. Experience in nonprofit leadership, preferably within arts or cultural organizations. Proven track record in fundraising, grant writing, and donor relations. Strong financial management skills, including budgeting and financial reporting. Excellent communication, interpersonal, and networking skills. Demonstrated ability to lead, inspire, and manage a diverse team. Passion for the arts, particularly glass art, and commitment to Foci Minnesota Center for Glass Arts' mission.
Preferences:
  • Knowledge or experience in glass arts
  • Knowledge or experience in studio arts or arts administration, and related business practices
  • Familiarity with Salesforce and Quickbooks
  • Valid driver's license and consistent access to a vehicle
  • Ability to lift 55 pounds
  • Ability to bend and stretch to accomplish necessary tasks
  • Ability to sit for extended periods of time
  • Ability to work weekdays, weeknights and weekends Mission and Values Alignment The Executive Director supports Foci MCGA's mission by leading a talented team of staff with diverse backgrounds in glass art, studio tech support, graphic design, program coordination, administration, and more.
This role requires a commitment and enthusiasm for connecting communities with the creative potential of glass.
