The Executive Director will be responsible for overseeing the overall strategy and operations of the company, as well as developing and implementing business development initiatives to expand our reach and impact. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in leadership, nonprofit management, development, and strategic planning. This critical role requires a collaborative and results-driven leader who can inspire and motivate our team to achieve exceptional results in the communities we serve.
Job Overview:
NAMI Southeast Minnesota, located in Rochester, MN and serving 7 southeastern Minnesota counties, is a local affiliate of the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), the nation's largest grassroots mental health organization. The executive director is the organization's chief executive officer, who oversees and implements the organization's strategic plan, directs human resources, and amplifies the voice of lived experience in local mental health initiatives. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience. Strong understanding of financial management of nonprofit organizations Successful grant writing and fundraising experience Proficiency with computer applications, including Microsoft Office, customer relationship management platforms, payroll systems, and HR management software Previous direct supervisory and leadership experience, preferably within a nonprofit Strong interpersonal and communication skills Experience fostering and managing community relationships A passion for supporting the community's mental health needs Professional experience working with individuals and communities affected by serious mental health conditions, with the demonstrated ability to effectively manage oneself, maintain appropriate boundaries, and remain resilient in complex and emotionally demanding environments Preferred Qualifications Experience working with individuals and families affected by mental illness Trauma informed leadership experience/training Working knowledge of the Southeast Minnesota mental health ecosystem, including key community resources, referral pathways, and regional service providers. Strong community engagement experience and desire Job Responsibilities Organizational Health Responsible for staff recruitment and retention, assuring compliance with appropriate employment and safety laws Manages staff development by conducting annual performance evaluations, goal-setting activities, and policy reviews, links staff with professional development opportunities Recruits and assists in training practices and utilization of volunteers to further the mission of NAMI Southeast Minnesota Builds and maintains a strong working relationship with NAMI Minnesota Coordinates membership recruitment and retention efforts Executes all contracts on behalf of the organization Attends and supports community events Fosters consistent communication between the Board of Directors and the organization, coordinating effective reporting to the board about organizational efforts Financial Vitality Seeks and pursues grants and donations Develops and manages the organization's budget, in conjunction with the Board of Directors and Finance Committee Directs fundraising activities, including NAMIWalks, direct mail campaigns and others as requested Program Development and Public Awareness Represents
