About AIR The Asheville Independent Restaurant Association (AIR) is a 501(c)(6) nonprofit organization committed to supporting the independent restaurant community in Asheville and Buncombe County through education and training, advocacy, and member collaboration. Founded in 2003, AIR has grown to more than 150 members, making it the largest not-for-profit organization of its kind in the country.

About the Role The Executive Director is the chief executive officer and champion of AIR, overseeing all aspects of the organization's daily operations and working in close partnership with the Board of Directors to ensure that AIR's mission guides both day-to-day work and long-term planning. This is a full-time, in-person leadership role based in Asheville, NC. The Executive Director reports directly to the Executive Committee of AIR's Board of Directors and supervises AIR staff and contractors. Job Duties Membership and Revenue Development Identify and recruit prospective members and partners; develop and implement strategies to attract new members and achieve sales targets Build strong relationships with existing members; implement initiatives to enhance the membership experience and increase engagement Monitor member engagement metrics and identify trends and opportunities for improvement Handle membership inquiries, registrations, and renewals efficiently and accurately Maintain AIR's database of members, affiliates, partners, and sponsors Research and recruit sponsorships for AIR events and programs Financial Management and Oversight Manage the organization's finances in conjunction with AIR's bookkeeper; present accurate financial reports to the board regularly; oversee the annual IRS 990 filing Manage the AIR Foundation's financial oversight and coordinate six annual Foundation board meetings Programs and Events Develop and organize ongoing professional development opportunities for AIR members Organize and manage the Financial Empowerment Program, including two cohorts annually and the grant-writing process Plan and execute organizational events, including the annual Taste of Asheville Communications and Marketing Oversee all organizational communications and maintain a positive public image for AIR Manage and approve advertising; oversee contractors for AIR's website, social media, and marketing Community Relations and Partnership Building Build positive relationships with elected officials, tourism partners, and community leaders; serve as AIR's official spokesperson Identify and cultivate public/private partnerships that align with AIR's goals and objectives Organizational Leadership and Strategy Lead AIR's strategic planning process in concert with the Executive Committee; report regularly on key performance indicators Manage the hiring and onboarding of staff and contractors; work with legal counsel on personnel matters as needed Qualifications Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, business, or a related field, or equivalent experience Prior experience in a related industry Strong written and verbal communication skills Demonstrated success in organizational development Experience working with diverse stakeholders including businesses, policymakers, and community leaders Strong interpersonal skills and relationship-building ability Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple priorities independently Sales and membership experience preferred Computer proficiency required Benefits 15 days paid vacation and up to 10 sick days per calendar year Healthcare stipend Cell phone stipend The Asheville Independent Restaurant Association provides equal employment opportunities to all employees and applicants and prohibits discrimination and harassment of any type without regard to race, color, religion, age, sex, national origin, disability status, genetics, protected veteran status, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, or any other characteristic protected by federal, state, or local laws.
