This role focuses on sustaining and expanding youth and adult membership, ensuring the long-term vitality and growth of Scouting in the designated service area. Duties and Responsibilities
- Work with a volunteer board of directors and other community and business leaders to identify, recruit, train, guide, and inspire them to become involved in youth programs.
- Achieve progress towards goals and objectives including program development, volunteer recruitment and training, fundraising, membership recruitment and retention.
- Establish connections with school and school district leaders, as well as other youth-serving organizations, to promote and expand Scouting programs.
- Engage with local church leaders, community leaders (including business and government representatives), and other influential institutions to foster support for the growth of new programs.
- Partner with other staff and volunteers to recruit and onboard new volunteers to support the development of units.
- Collaborate with unit leaders and other volunteers to create annual unit program and budget plans to ensure youth retention.
- Assist local leaders' participation in Council-sponsored fundraising activities, including product sales and annual giving campaigns.
- Partner with the Program Committee to ensure district-level programs are of high quality, providing a strong foundation for successful onboarding and long-term membership retention.
- Secure adequate financial support for programs in assigned area. Achieve net income and participation objectives for assigned camps and activities.
- Recruit leadership for finance campaign efforts to meet the financial needs of the organization.
- Collaborate with adult volunteers and oversee achievement of training for their respective role.
- Be a good role model and recognize the importance of working relationships with other professionals and volunteers.
Job Competencies Knowledge of:
Traditional Scouting programs, their benefits, and how they cater to different age groups; potential charter partners (schools, churches, etc.) and their motivations for supporting Scouting; program structure, leadership roles, program planning, budgeting, and membership retention strategies; training opportunities for volunteers and how they contribute to unit effectiveness.Skill in:
Establishing trusting relationships with potential partners and building a network of Scouting supporters; communicating verbally and in writing to present the value of Scouting, recruiting and motivating volunteers; resourcefulness to address challenges related to unit growth, retention, and volunteer engagement.Ability to:
Identify underserved communities within the assigned area and understand their needs; work effectively with a diverse group of stakeholders including council staff, volunteers, community leaders, and school officials; plan and execute membership growth initiatives, manage resources, and track progress towards goals; analyze membership data to identify trends and target areas for growth; set clear, measurable goals for unit growth and membership retention and develop strategies to achieve them; manage time to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and manage a busy workload; stay organized and manage multiple projects and relationships simultaneously; be self-motivated with a passion for Scouting and a commitment to serving youth.Minimum Qualifications:
Education Level:
Bachelor's degree in business administration, education or a related field from an accredited college or university.Experience:
2 to 4 years of experience in sales, marketing, relationship management with all levels of employees, financial management, and membership.Compensation:
The Great Falls Council is an equal opportunity employer. In addition to offering a competitive salary between $60,000 and $65,000, the position offers benefits to include major medical, prescription coverage, dental, vision, life-insurance, long-term disability, accidental death, a retirement plan, plus compensation for authorized and approved business-related expenses including mileage reimbursement. We also offer a generous vacation policy and ten holiday observances. Must have a valid driver's license, own a car, and have the ability to travel, including local and regional visits, and work some evenings and weekends. Must be willing to accept and meet the Boy Scout of America's leadership and membership standards and subscribe to the Scout Oath and Law. A Scouting background is helpful but not required.
