POSITION SUMMARY
The Executive Director leads the Waynesville Area Chamber of Commerce, providing the strategic vision and operational management required to promote local business growth. Serving as chief executive officer, the role manages daily operations, grows membership, and executes Board directives while acting as the primary spokesperson for the community. This position is central to strengthening the local business environment and driving long-term economic development through leadership, advocacy, and strategic partnerships.
Develop and implement long-term initiatives and community programs aligned with the Chamber's mission.
Board Liaison:
Serve as the primary contact for the Board of Directors, facilitating meetings and delivering monthly updates.
Governance & Compliance :
Review, draft, and revise internal Chamber policies, bylaws, and operational procedures for Board approval to ensure organizational compliance.
Membership & Partnership Development Growth & Retention:
Drive campaigns to recruit new businesses and retain existing Chamber members.
Relationship Building:
Foster collaboration and resource sharing among local business owners, educational institutions, legislators (state, county, and local), economic development departments (state, county, and local), and stakeholders.
Value Delivery:
Analyze member needs to provide valuable business resources, networking opportunities, and dedicated services.
Prepare and manage the annual budget, monitor fiscal health, and oversee daily bookkeeping and compliance.
Daily Operations:
Manage office workflows, database records, building operations, staff supervision, and vendor contracts.
Grant Management:
Research, write, and secure grant funding from public and private sources to support community programs and economic development.
Advocacy & Community Relations Public Representation:
Serve as the official Chamber spokesperson at local government, civic, and regional meetings.
Policy Advocacy:
Champion initiatives and attend public hearings to support a healthy local business climate.
Marketing & Communications Brand Promotion:
Manage the Chamber's website, email newsletters, and social media channels to promote local businesses.
Campaign Delivery:
Develop a marketing plan and execute marketing strategies that increase public visibility for Chamber programs and community initiatives.
Event & Program Execution Event Management:
Plan and execute signature community events, monthly networking functions, workshops, and festivals.
Revenue Generation:
Secure corporate sponsorships and alternative funding sources to ensure event profitability.
Volunteer Coordination:
Mobilize community volunteers and coordinate specialized committees for event delivery.
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
Education & Experience Professional Experience:
5+ years of proven leadership in business administration, non-profit management, or marketing.
Educational Background:
Bachelor's degree in business, communications, or a related field (or equivalent professional experience).
Core Competencies Communication:
Exceptional interpersonal, public speaking, and media presentation skills.
Financial Acumen:
Strong literacy in budgeting, fiscal oversight, and accounting software (QuickBooks preferred).
Marketing & Digital Media:
Proficiency in digital marketing strategies, social media management, and online communications.
Event Management:
Demonstrated ability to plan, organize, and execute large-scale community events and programs.
Local Expertise:
Deep knowledge of the local business environment, economic development principles, and community relations.
Job Requirements Schedule Flexibility:
Ability to work varied hours, including evenings or weekends for specific Chamber events.
Mobility:
Reliable transportation required for local events and regional meetings.
Compensation & Benefits Base Salary:
$50,000 - $70,000 annually (commensurate with experience).
Performance Bonus:
Up to $10,000 annually, structured around board-approved goals for membership growth, community events, and revenue targets. Paid Time Off (PTO): 10 days annually (years 1-3). 15 days annually (4+ years), plus paid federal holidays.
