Job Description
President - Payne Theological Seminary Payne Theological Seminary invites applications and nominations for the position of President . Founded in 1894 by the African Methodist Episcopal Church, Payne is the oldest freestanding African American seminary in the United States , with a historic mission to prepare leaders for ministry grounded in liberation, reconciliation, social justice, and the dignity of all humankind. Located in Wilberforce, Ohio, Payne seeks a visionary, strategic, and spiritually grounded leader to serve as chief executive officer and guide the institution into its next chapter of academic excellence, financial sustainability, and expanded impact.

The President will:
Provide executive leadership across academic, financial, and institutional operations Strengthen enrollment, fundraising, and institutional visibility Deepen relationships within the AME Church and broader theological community Advance innovative theological and counselor education programs The ideal candidate will bring: Senior leadership experience in higher education or theological education A terminal degree (Ph.D., Th.D., D.Min., Ed.D., or equivalent) Demonstrated success in strategic planning and fundraising Strong connection to and leadership within the AME Church Commitment to diversity, equity, justice, and the Black church tradition This is a historic opportunity to lead a globally significant institution in African American theological education.
