Requirements Required Demonstrated leadership experience in nonprofit management, arts administration, education, or a related field. Strong written, verbal, and public-speaking skills, with the ability to clearly communicate the mission and value of the organization. Proven success in fundraising and donor/community relations. Proficiency with budget planning, financial reporting, and operational oversight. Exceptional time management, multi-tasking and project coordination, and organizational abilities. Ability to manage confidential information with discretion and professionalism. High degree of initiative, energy, and commitment to youth education and the performing arts. Proficient with various file management platforms and programs including, but not limited to, Google Drive, Microsoft OneDrive, Dropbox, Excel, and fundraising platforms. Preferred Experience working with a youth-based or performing arts organization. Knowledge of grant writing and institutional fundraising. Familiarity with QuickBooks or similar accounting software. Experience supervising staff or volunteers. Working knowledge of social media management, website platforms, and digital marketing. Executive Director Position The Executive Director (ED) is the chief administrative officer of the Wichita Falls Youth Symphony Orchestra (WFYSO). The ED is responsible for the overall leadership, management, and strategic advancement of the organization. Key focus areas include fundraising, marketing and public relations, program administration, finance and compliance, community engagement, and board support. This role requires a hands-on leader capable of managing daily operations while also positioning WFYSO for long-term growth and sustainability. Start Date (flexible): January 2026 (latest June 1, 2026 aligning with fiscal year) Primary Responsibilities Strategic Leadership & Planning Develop, maintain, and implement an annual master plan supporting WFYSO's mission and strategic objectives. Coordinate rehearsal schedules, concerts, special events, broadcasts, and audience development initiatives. Prepare the annual operating budget in collaboration with the Finance Committee; ensure adherence to board-approved financial guidelines. Ensure the organization is effectively staffed (employees, contractors, and volunteers) to support programming needs. Artistic & Program Administration Work collaboratively with the Music Director, Instructors, and Program Committee to secure rehearsal/concert venues, equipment, instruments, music licensing, and required permits. Negotiate facility leases and ensure all performance and rehearsal spaces are properly maintained and equipped. Coordinate with the Wichita Falls Symphony Orchestra, other arts organizations, and the WFISD on joint programming opportunities. Attend all WFYSO rehearsals, concerts, and major events. Fundraising & Development Lead and support all fundraising activities, including annual appeals, donor campaigns, sponsorships, grants, and special events. Identify, cultivate, and steward donors, corporate partners, and community stakeholders. Prepare and submit grant proposals; ensure compliance with grant-funding requirements and reporting. Maintain accurate donor and contribution records; ensure timely acknowledgement of all support in accordance with legal requirements. Marketing & Communications Oversee the development and distribution of all printed and digital promotional materials, including social media, newsletters, programs, and press releases. Serve as the primary spokesperson for WFYSO to the media, public officials, schools, families, and community partners. Strengthen WFYSO's brand recognition, audience reach, and community visibility. Maintain consistent, transparent communication with parents, students, volunteers, donors, and the board. Administration & Compliance Maintain accurate books and financial records; ensure invoices, donations, and payroll are processed in a timely and compliant manner. Produce monthly financial statements for board review and ensure adherence to approved budgets. Negotiate all contracts within authorized financial limits. Ensure compliance with all applicable local, state, and federal regulations, including employment and nonprofit reporting requirements. Regularly review, update, and maintain job descriptions, organizational policies, musician handbooks, and board manuals. Maintain membership rosters, attendance records, and historical program data. Board Relations Provide timely and accurate information through Executive Director reports prior to Board Meetings; maintain communication with appropriate committees and entire board as necessary to support involvement and decision-making. Assist in board recruitment, onboarding, and governance development. Implement board directives and strategic priorities; ensure organizational alignment with mission and goals. Salary & Benefits Compensation & Reporting Structure The Executive Director reports directly to the WFYSO Board of Directors. Compensation commensurate with experience. Some evening and weekend availability required for rehearsals, concerts, and events.
