Job Description To monitor and control one or more computer systems through operation of the central console and on-line terminals. To operate auxiliary equipment directly associated with computer systems. To continuously observe the operation of the console panel, storage devices, printers, and action of the console printer to monitor the system and determine the point of equipment or program failure. To manipulate controls in accordance with standard procedures to rearrange the sequence of job steps to continue operations when problems or special circumstances arise. To confer with software systems engineers or applications programming personnel in the event errors require a change of instructions or sequence of operations. To maintain operating records such as machine performance and production reports. To assist in operations scheduling. To assume responsibilities of supervisor in their absence. Qualifications High School diploma or GED and three (3) years of related experience required. Work experience may substitute for education requirement. Preferred Skills Excellent interpersonal skills. Excellent verbal and writing skills

Grants physical and remote access to areas of responsibility for customers, vendors and contractors Performs data center "walkthroughs" to detect system and environmental problems Monitors systems, subsystems, HVAC, PDU and UPS for issues and reports them to on call or supervisor Logs and services support calls and provides support to on call personnel in other groups Takes on call as needed Takes direction and training well from other groups. Able to take on new responsibilities, and support as requested. Ability to assess situations and take counter measures to ensure system availability. Must have an excellent driving record and insurance Able to travel between multiple data centers as requested or needed Basic understanding complex IT environments o Effectively identifies and troubleshoots network related issues o Network cable identification, routing, wiring and creation o Adds and or removes network, power and other wiring as needed Basic hardware skills o Adds and or removes hardware as needed, including unboxing, racking and mounting equipment o Able perform tasks requiring heavy lifting, working in tight spaces etc. o Able to operate various types of lifts, jacks and trucks to move equipment effectively with training o Able to move various types of equipment safely and effectively Infrastructure skills o Familiar with Uninterrupted Power Supply technology (UPS) o Familiar with the operation of cooling equipment (HVAC) o Familiar with Power Distribution Units (PDU) o Familiar with data center floor plans and configurations for efficiency Why Work at UAB Medicine We are UAB Medicine, Alabama's largest and most comprehensive health system, recognized nationally for delivering world-class patient care, pioneering research, and cutting-edge medical education.
