Job Description

  • Recruitment Range:
    $50,000 - $70,000 Annually
  • Salary is commensurate to ability and experience.
  • Who we are: The North Carolina House Majority is seeking qualified candidates to apply for its expanding Oversight and Investigations team.
This office serves as the enforcement and improvement mechanism of the North Carolina House of Representatives. When agencies disregard statutes enacted by the legislature, when local governments misuse taxpayer funds, when schools disregard parental rights, or when public institutions refuse to comply with State law, this team brings such failures and defiance to light. The team also actively partners with agencies and outside experts to cut wait times, measure outcomes, and ensure taxpayers see real value from government. Investigative analysts are the front line of legislative oversight. In this role, you will analyze records, uncover facts, and build the evidence that supports legislative inquiries, oversight hearings, and corrective action by the General Assembly. work directly with Republican members of the House Oversight Committee to prepare for hearings and examinations. directly help develop precise, productive lines of questioning designed to test agency testimony, challenge unsupported claims, and establish a clear public record during oversight proceedings. work closely with the House Majority Leader and his staff, coordinating investigative findings and assisting in the preparation of materials that inform legislative strategy, committee hearings, and accountability efforts. This role offers a rare opportunity to hold government accountable with real authority, direct access to leadership, and room to build your own abilities.
What you will do:
Conduct investigative research into State agencies, local governments, school systems, and publicly funded entities. Review records, correspondence, financial documents, contracts, and reports to identify violations of State law, misuse of public funds, or administrative failures. Develop investigative memoranda, research briefs, and reports for Republican members and committee leadership. Develop productive lines of questioning and briefing materials for Republican committee members to conduct oversight examinations. Assist members in preparing for legislative oversight hearings and committee investigations. Track agency compliance with statutes enacted by the General Assembly and recommendations for improvement. Coordinate with legal and policy staff during active investigations. Flag emerging issues that may warrant legislative scrutiny or formal inquiry.
Who you are:
Recent graduate or early career professional. Bachelor's degree in relevant field or equivalent work experience. Strong work ethic and intellectual curiosity with an interest in the legislative process, oversight, and investigative work. Strong investigative research and analytical abilities. Exceptional writing and communication skills to synthesize complex information clearly and concisely. Commitment to accountability and effective government. Professional judgment and discretion when handling sensitive materials.
