With a successful Redwood City location and the reopening of our flagship San Bruno location, we're building the systems and team needed to support future growth. We are seeking an organized, bilingual, and people-focused Human Resources professional to own the employee lifecycle from hiring through separation while helping ensure compliance across our growing organization. This is an opportunity to join a rapidly growing company and help build the foundation for future expansion. Position Summary The People Operations & HR Coordinator will oversee onboarding, employee records, compliance, payroll verification, recruiting coordination, workers' compensation administration, and employee relations support for all our locations (TWO restaurants, ONE Commissary Kitchen) ~120 Employees This role will work directly with ownership and department managers to ensure Mazra maintains a positive workplace culture while remaining compliant with California labor laws and employment regulations. ResponsibilitiesOnboarding & Employee Administration Manage all new hire onboarding processes Complete and maintain I-9 documentation Maintain employee personnel files Prepare and distribute onboarding paperwork Conduct new hire orientations Ensure all required employee acknowledgments are completed Recruiting & Staffing Manage job postings across hiring platforms Screen candidates and coordinate interviews Conduct reference checks Assist managers with hiring processes Maintain candidate pipelines for future openings Compliance & Risk Management Ensure compliance with California labor laws Track required trainings and certifications Maintain HR documentation and records Assist with workplace investigations when needed Coordinate workers' compensation claims Manage leave requests and employee accommodations Employee Relations Support managers with coaching and documentation Maintain disciplinary records and write-ups Assist with employee concerns and conflict resolution Coordinate offboarding and termination processes Conduct exit interviews Payroll & Benefits Support Audit employee hours and payroll records before processing Verify pay rates, tips, and wage changes Coordinate with accounting and payroll providers Assist employees with benefits-related questions Qualifications Required Bilingual in English and Spanish 2-5 years of HR, People Operations, or Human Resources experience Strong organizational and administrative skills Interest in learning new ways to use Ai and finding ways to utilize them Excellent written and verbal communication Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Workspace Ability to handle confidential information professionally Preferred Restaurant, hospitality, or multi-unit experience Knowledge of California employment law Experience with payroll systems Experience with HRIS systems and employee onboarding software What We're Looking For We're looking for someone who: Is highly organized and detail-oriented Enjoys helping people succeed Can balance empathy with accountability Is comfortable having difficult conversations when necessary Wants to grow with a company long-term Takes ownership and follows through Benefits Competitive salary Paid time off Career growth opportunities Leadership development Opportunity to help shape the future of a growing restaurant group Schedule Monday to Friday Primarily in-person Travel between restaurant locations (San Bruno/Redwood City) Why Join Mazra?
