JOB OVERVIEW
Pacific Justice Institute (PJI) is seeking a highly driven, strategic, and mission-aligned Strategic Outreach & Media Relations Manager to join our growing team. This is a fast-paced, high-impact role for an individual who thrives on communication, relationship-building, strategic outreach, media relations, and measurable results. The successful candidate will serve as a key external relations and communications representative for the organization—helping expand PJI's national visibility, strengthen media relationships, increase public engagement opportunities, secure high-level guests and partnerships, and advance organizational initiatives through strategic communication and outreach efforts. This role goes far beyond administrative coordination. The ideal candidate is proactive, highly organized, confident on the phone, comfortable engaging with media professionals and public figures, and motivated by measurable execution and outcomes. This position requires initiative, persistence, adaptability, strong follow-through, and the ability to consistently move conversations and opportunities forward. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys networking, opening doors, securing opportunities, building strategic relationships, and helping advance meaningful causes through communication and outreach. RESPONSIBILITIES
Media Relations & Strategic Outreach:
Conduct outreach to media outlets, journalists, podcast hosts, producers, editors, influencers, public figures, organizations, and strategic partners. Develop and maintain professional relationships that expand PJI's visibility, media presence, and public engagement opportunities. Support outreach efforts tied to organizational campaigns, public initiatives, media appearances, interviews, and strategic partnerships. Conduct phone, email, and relationship-based outreach while maintaining consistent follow-up and communication. Research and develop new outreach opportunities, lead sources, partnerships, and engagement channels. Assist in securing interviews, podcast appearances, speaking opportunities, media placements, and related public-facing opportunities. Track outreach activity, active conversations, bookings, and measurable developments through organized reporting systems. Press Releases & Media Coordination Coordinate regular meetings with Chief Legal Counsel and organizational leadership to identify newsworthy legal cases, organizational updates, and public interest stories. Draft, edit, and distribute press releases tied to legal cases, organizational initiatives, public policy issues, and media campaigns. Maintain strong written communication standards while ensuring messaging remains clear, accurate, compelling, and aligned with PJI's mission and voice. Conduct targeted media outreach tied to press releases and ongoing organizational initiatives. Coordinate interviews and media opportunities for PJI attorneys and leadership following press outreach and media engagement efforts. Assist in identifying strategic media angles and opportunities that increase organizational visibility and public engagement. Guest Booking & Initiative Advancement:
Identify, recruit, coordinate, and secure guests, contributors, organizations, and participants for PJI media programs, public discussions, and organizational initiatives. Manage outreach pipelines, scheduling coordination, relationship development, and follow-up communication. Assist leadership in developing strategic relationships and expanding organizational visibility through outreach efforts. Coordinate outreach efforts connected to ongoing campaigns, public initiatives, and special projects. Help facilitate productive communication and engagement opportunities surrounding issues related to constitutional rights, religious liberty, parental rights, and public policy. Speaking Engagements & Event Coordination:
Conduct outreach to churches, conferences, organizations, schools, ministries, media outlets, and partner groups to secure speaking opportunities for PJI leadership and attorneys. Coordinate and manage speaking engagements, presentations, interviews, panel discussions, and related public appearances for the President of PJI and PJI attorneys. Build and maintain relationships with event organizers, ministry leaders, conference coordinators, and strategic partners. Manage communication, scheduling logistics, follow-up coordination, and event preparation related to speaking opportunities. Assist in expanding PJI's national visibility and public engagement through strategic speaking and event opportunities. Coordinate internal calendars, event details, presentation logistics, and related communication to ensure smooth execution of events and appearances. Reporting & Organizational Support:
Maintain organized records of outreach efforts, conversations, bookings, media developments, and measurable outcomes. Provide consistent reporting regarding outreach activity, progress, and measurable results. Adapt outreach strategies as needed to improve effectiveness and organizational impact. Provide additional support to the marketing, media, communications, and leadership teams as needed, assisting with a variety of tasks that align with departmental goals and organizational priorities. 3+ years of experience in public relations, media outreach, communications, journalism, booking, fundraising, campaign development, external relations, sales, or related fields Strong writing, editing, and professional communication abilities Experience conducting professional outreach and relationship management Strong organizational and reporting skills Ability to work independently with minimal oversight Experience using CRM systems, spreadsheets, outreach tracking tools, or project management platforms is a plus Professional demeanor and confidence interacting with media professionals, attorneys, executives, public figures, and organizational leaders WHY JOIN PJI?
