The Director of Financial Operations is a key member of the senior leadership team and is responsible for Financial and HR support for the lumber yard and sales team. This role partners closely with the Vice President (VP) to drive measurable business impact (profit, cash, inventory accuracy, productivity, and risk reduction), ensure accurate monthly financials (GAAP-compliant), and provide clear, actionable insights that enable better and faster decisions. The ideal candidate is a strong operator and leader who influences outcomes—not just reports results. They proactively identify root causes, drive execution across teams, and build operating discipline through consistent cadences and accountability. This role has direct reports. This position is located onsite at our Stockton location and is not a remote or hybrid position. Leadership Communicate company strategy across all levels and translate it into execution priorities Act as a trusted business partner to the VP—providing clarity, not noise Establish and maintain a positive, accountable, results-driven culture Proactively identify risks and opportunities; take action before issues escalate Drive operating discipline through cadence (weekly/monthly routines) and accountability Develop people and build capabilities across middle management Behaviors Required Passionately driven Flexible and adaptable in a fast-paced environment Genuinely curious with a bias toward root-cause problem solving Maintain strong internal controls, daily cash controls, and asset protection Full financial responsibility for the site, with focus on decision support (not just reporting): Month-end close (2.5-day close) with clear "strategic" narrative summary Variance analysis tied to operational drivers (not just account-level explanations) Forecasting accuracy and proactive re-forecasting Support audits (bank and corporate)
Business Support & Financial Analysis:
Translate financial results into specific actions for operations and sales Pre-wire decisions for the VP (what should change next month and why) Identify and implement process improvements and automation Maintain trusted data sources and dashboards (data governance)
Monitoring and Accountability:
Weekly tracking of sales, margin, and key KPIs vs plan Ownership of performance visibility across the yard Annual budgeting and periodic forecasting tied to operational realities Financial Management & Accounting Inventory Management Drive inventory accuracy, turns, and optimize inventory offerings/levels Lead weekly line reviews (aging, negative on-hand, adjustments) Implement and monitor cycle count discipline and accuracy trends Sales Performance & Customer Analysis Partner with VP to improve profitable growth Lead customer stratification (A/B/C tiers) and coverage model Identify margin leakage, mix issues, and churn risks Deliver actionable insights in sales meetings Yard / Production Efficiency Monitor labor productivity, downtime, and throughput Identify top constraints and validate root causes Track and prove impact of operational changes (before/after results) HR / Management Responsibilities Align HR activities with company values and operational needs Oversee HR site processes, workflows, and compliance hygiene Partner with

to execute: Recruiting Employee development & engagement Compliance and training completion Compensation Discipline and terminations Commission and bonus calculations Oversee workers comp and accident reporting for the yard Proactively manage risk (safety actions, HR cases, compliance gaps) Manage and coach direct reports to improve performance and capability Admin, Cash Flow & Facilities Oversight Maintain AR discipline and reduce aging (partner with sales on collections) Ensure AP hygiene to avoid operational disruption (critical vendors prioritized) Monitor cash drivers (AR, AP timing, working capital) Support facilities through prioritized backlog management Skills Required High integrity; ability to handle confidential information Strong communication, interpersonal and leadership skills Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance (or equivalent experience) Strong business judgment with operational mindset that puts the customer first, while maintaining compliance and integrity. Ability to independently identify problems, recommend solutions, and drive execution Strong analytical skills; ability to convert data into actionable insights Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and lead change Strong time management and prioritization (focus on high-impact work) Intermediate to advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, data analysis tools) Ability to understand and influence the financial impact of operational decisions What makes our Company a great place to work?
