Job Description

The purpose of this classification is to supervise day-to-day operations and staff involved in the operation and maintenance of the Raw Water Pumping Station (RWPS) in order to maintain compliance with applicable local, state, and federal environmental rules and regulations for the Consolidated Government's water utility. Reports to the Manager, RWPS. Supervises, directs, and evaluates assigned staff. Processes employee concerns and problems, directs work, counsels, disciplines, and completes employee performance appraisals. Coordinates daily work activities assigned at the Raw Water Pumping Station. Organizes, prioritizes, and assigns work. Monitors status of work in progress and inspects completed work. Consults with assigned staff, assists with complex and problem situations. Provides technical expertise, as needed. Develops and conducts staff training. Monitors staff certification and licensure. Assists in supervising the daily operations of assigned facilities. Implements and monitors compliance with operational policies and procedures, and safety rules and regulations. Keeps employees informed of operational, policy changes and their impact on the plant and work assignments. Ensures plant activities and operations comply with all local, state, and federal rules, regulations, standards, policies, and procedures. Monitors work environment and the use of safety equipment to ensure safety of employees and other individuals. Initiates any actions necessary to correct deviations. Prepares and submits related reports as required. Assists in monitoring plant systems, conducts periodic inspections, tests of operations and processing equipment. Ensures proper operating conditions. Performs and/or supervises equipment maintenance. Adjusts and calibrates equipment to ensure effective operations. Analyzes and maintains all related logs and records. Maintains inventory of supplies and equipment. Monitors inventory levels of materials and supplies used in facility operations. Initiates purchase orders, communicates, and coordinates delivery with vendors. Maintains related documentation. Assists in evaluation of plant operational capabilities. Makes recommendations regarding capital improvements, changes in equipment, plant design, or other plant operations. Prepares equipment requisitions, obtains quotes, and reviews project progress. Schedules meetings with project engineers and/or contractors as needed. Assists in implementing budget for assigned areas. Makes recommendations regarding staffing, equipment, and capital improvements. Processes invoices and monitors expenditures to ensure compliance with approved budget. Maintains related documentation. Performs other duties of a similar nature or level. Position specific responsibilities might include : Prepare and document periodic training for facility staff. Coordinate with Manager and Shift Leaders to ensure quality of facility operations. Prepares schedules for shifts. Orders operational supplies as needed. Performs other assigned duties.
Requirements:
Education:
High school diploma or GED is required
Experience:
Five (5) years of progressively responsible experience including lead or supervisory experience in the operation and maintenance of facilities using industrial type machinery.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Considerable knowledge of working in an industrial setting. Familiarity with safety considerations for working with large mechanical and electrical systems. Must have good working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications. Must have good communication skills, both oral and written. Must have demonstrated ability to work independently or with a team.
Certifications:
Possess or have the ability to obtain a Water Distribution System Operator Certification within one year .
Licensing:
Possession of a valid driver's license with good driving history. If State license is other than Georgia or South Carolina, applicant must obtain a license in Georgia or South Carolina within 30 days of employment.
